Remote for electric cord reel

I have a Momentary on/off switch by my 50 Amp electric cord reel but I would like to convert it to a key fob so I can walk with the cord. Anyone ever do this?

Seems like a waste of money. When I reel in my cord, I wrap a damp paper towel around the cord and power it in. That gets all the dust and dirt off the cord.

But, If it's something you just have to own, I'm sure someone will come up with a solution.

Not me, I also doubt if anyone would be inclined to do that amount of work and expense to save so little amount of work.

I turn mine on and walk it to the pedistal and walk back. By that time I 'might' have 2' to roll back in. 2' of slack on the ground is not something I'd lose any sleep over. If I did, I can push the retract button for .8654 seconds 😀

If you "turn yours on and walk to the pedestal" you either have 25 foot long arms or you don't have a momentary switch. If so someone was already inclined

Wireless Remotes ... Hmmm?

Here's my story on remotes with wireless fobs.

Some years ago I went the remote route with my Winch for my race car to pull it into the trailer.

One day I was finished racing for the day and the race car was sitting outside on the ramp door of the trailer ready to load with the winch cable connected in the roof of the race car ( the cable hooks thu the roof into the roll cage with a pip pin )

So as Im sitting next to my trailer talking to some folks about how things went qualifying I suddenly notice the car starting to go into the trailer on it's own... and I was like WTH?

First ( in a panic) I tried to unhook the winch cable but that wasn't gonna happen due to the load on the cable. I was lucky because I had the winch power cord in the front of the trailer on a quick disconnect and got it unplugged before and damage to the car or worse and someone got hurt.

So once I get things under control and plug the winch power cord back in and it again starts on it's own and I was WTH? ... I'm looking at the remote fob sitting on the work bench how can the winch still be operating? I even took the batteries out of it.

I walk around the trailer only to find my son sitting on our pit scooter talking to the folks pitted next to us and said " hey ! ..have you seen the other wireless remote fob for the winch? "

He said "yea it's right here in my back pocket" .....as he was still sitting on it, causing it to activate.

That day was the end of wireless remotes for me for a while....... other than the TV remote.

I changed my switch so it will power it in and out. Powering a pile onto the ground is easier than pulling it out.

Folks that have frailties can appreciate the pain that heavy cord can cause. I also did that to my hose reel.

I did exactly what you want. Got the unit from GAMA Electronics
gamainc.com
Now I can grab the plug and walk to the pedestal. I kept the momentary switch intact for reeling it back as I wipe it off.

My rig came with one, in the two years I've owned it I've never used the remote.

I unplug from the pedestal then with a damp cloth in my hand I wrap it around the hose and hit the retract switch. It gets clean every time and like a fob might be it's not something I have to look around to find.

Gama products are quality.......I use a single to operate my slide, now thinking about the model they have that will operate 4 different reversing motors using one fob....lots of different controllers out there......using a different brand RF controller for the awning...and a different brand for my flagpole.......will be adding my two electric stabilizers and front landing gear....
