Wanting to upgrade my analog RCA TV to a LCD TV. I know that there are alot of discussions on this upgrade in all areas of IRV2. The thing I am concerned about first is: How to get the RCA out of the cabinet? Where do I start? The front frame seems to be glued to the side panels. What I would like to do is save the front trim and just fit a new LCD within that opening. Any assistance and thoughts would be helpfull.

This is a two person job, so you don't knick or damage anything in the process. The front trim is held on by phillips screws that are covered by wood dowel tips. Just pop off the tips and it will expose the screws. When taking out the screws, have someone hold the front of the TV in, as it will come out too easily and could fall. Prior to taking out the TV, put several towels on the dash so you can gently let the old TV down onto it. The cables should be connected to the rear of the TV so just unscrew them and do the reverse to install the new TV.
There is no need to do anything anywhere else as the wiring is in place, just attach and enjoy.

I happened to be in the 'Fry's electronic store and they had a pretty big selection of TV mounting brackets if you need one for your cabinet. Good luck!
BTW, have your spouse keep a leash on you when you are in there...I wanted all of thier stuff!!

Bill,

While in Indiana at the Service center we had them remove the old TV and put in LCD TVs in both front and rear. Monaco found that using 1/8 inch aluminum sheeting worked the best for mounting the LCDs. They bend it so they can screw it into the frame and woodwork and then they drill holes for screw mounting of the TV. They then cut out the area for all connections.
Very simple and very sturdy--we drove it back to AZ from Indiana without any issues

If you want to see the wood working they did--which was gorgeous we will be happy to email pictures to you. They did a really nice job. We wanted the TV recessed as we kept hitting our heads on the other one because the Mastiffs were always trying to get out while we were getting in

What brand/model TV did Monaco install? I sent you a PM. We would like to see the photos. We would also like to replace the front TV. Quite a few boardmembers have.

Hi, responded to the PM with pictures. We purchased a Sony Bravia LCD at Circuit City and took it to Indiana. I can't recall the exact size but I measured the space so that it would fit in the existing space so the other cabinets would remain as they were. I am thinking it is a 26. The back bedroom is a Samsung because it was the only 23 I could find--fits PERFECTLY in the cabinet. The back TV we put into the existing cabinetry with no modifications.

I read with great interest how you had the two tv,s replaced with LCD's. We have the same year coach as yours although different make and model but I believe there are probably a lot of similarities in the tv's and cabnietry.
I know we have in common that I'm tired of occasionally knocking my head on the front tv cabinet so therein lies the real interest.
From your post it sounds like you are really happy with the outcome but I'm curious what brand and size of lcd you had put in and how much they cut the wood work back up front. If you don't mind talking about it I would love to hear that info and of course I would like to see the pictures also.
I've already called the service center to gather as much info as I can on the tv's and also altering the bedroom drawer space to give us the two tiered drawers in the opposing slide.

Hi to all in this thread.

I can vouch for the pic's on this TV conversion.

Karen & Jeff (mom2mastiffs) were so kind to send me the pic's via email and I am very impressed with the results. These pic's should be up in this thread for everyone's review and enjoyment. If (MonacoMama) can get them up it would be great. Maybe we all could "stop hitting our heads"

I have sent the pictures to Monaco Mama for her to put up.
Jeffrey pointed out to tell you--we selected the TVs. Monaco only uses what is available. Since the electrician had fried the TV I knew I needed a new one so I went shopping and found the Sony Bravia 26. I must say the picture is GORGEOUS! I walked in there last night while Jeffrey was working on some things and had the TV on--the picture was awesome.

HI, the new cabinet and TV have made a WORLD of difference--no more cuts or bumps on Jeffrey's bald head

The cabinet was moved back between 7-8 inches. They brought the TV as far toward the windshield as they could while maintaining the room for connections.
Jeffrey said he'd answer any questions regarding the installation that he could so ask away.
