Renovate 1995 HR Alumalite Ceiling

The ceiling in my 1995 28' HR Alumalite Custom is sagging in the open areas (kitchen/living room and bedroom). I have owned the RV about 1.5 years, and the condition existed at the time of purchase, but has gotten worse and now I have the time to correct it. The condition is due to age and heat, there have never been any significant water leaks.

It appears that the ceiling construction includes insulation boards which evidently were glued to the underside of the aluminum roof panels, with steel channel between the insulation board joints. Below the insulation is a white backing board, then a thin layer of foam lining, then a white vinyl.

The insulation adhesive has failed and allowed the insulation boards to sag. The foam lining is also coming unglued from the backing board in several places.

My plan at this time is to remove all of the cabinets in the kitchen and bedroom, and take down the existing ceiling. If the insulation boards still appear good, I will re-adhere them to the roof metal (aluminum) using a high temperature rated commercial roofing adhesive. Then make new backing boards (as the original ones seem to have become floppy and weak due to age and temperature)and install new foam backed vinyl. Finally, reinstall the backing boards and trim strips that snap into the steel channel.

Has anyone else been through this process on this vintage RV, and if so, can you offer any suggestions or improvements to the procedure that I have described.

Also, does anyone know where i can obtain the backer board material?
