These all look great, looks like another winter project. These projects never end, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Ok, I'm in, I have a 2 burner princess that we don't use and the single portable induction top so many speak of. I have been toying with the idea for a while, now You've convinced me, thanks😃

Induction Cookers - the Bad News

I do all our cooking. We also use induction cookers but ours are the single unit, portable kind. The reason we went with the portables is that the two-burner cooktop models have the two "burners" (induction cooking rings) too close together. If you try to use two 10" skillets, one will not center on it's cooking ring. Larger pots are even worse. Now the same is true for RV electric cooktops but we are discussing induction here.

We disconnected our electric cooktop but left it in place, used this original stove circuit and installed a 20-amp receptacle (it's a non-inverted circuit) for one induction cooker, plus, when needed, the second induction cooker is plugged into an inverted circuit.

Finally, we are buying a portable butane cooker (like the restaurants use for table-side cooking). This will allow us to cook a rare three-pot dinner, we can move everything outside if we want, and the butane unit will keep the coffee hot throughout the morning without drawing battery power or running the genny.

Induction cookers can be different wattages (read the label). Our two are the same brand and look the same but one is 1,300 Watts and one is 1,800 Watts. Both work fine but the 1,800 is MUCH faster than the 1,300.

A last thought... You must allow time and space for induction cookers to cool down after cooking with them. The surface of the induction cooker will become hot (very hot) NOT from flame or electric coils but from the cooked food (in the pot). The hot food will cause heat to transfer downward, through the metal cooking pot, and onto the cooking surface. This makes the surface of the induction cooker too hot to touch. This surprises some people as they talk about the "cool" cooking surface when the unit is on. It is cool—until you cook something.

The gas cooktop got fired up once to see if it worked and never again. Last year she picked up a True two burner cooktop for me to install and here is the result.

That sounds nice, but may lead to user-errors. Please allow me to explain. If I was cooking something on the black range and wanted to slide it over to the side for a bit, I probably would not think twice about sliding onto the black Corian. That would be a big mistake. Corian cannot take the heat of a hot pot or pan. Having the Corian in a different color would visually remind me to NOT slide the pot onto the Corian.

I see references to burning off the propane before installing the induction cooktop. My understanding is that shutting off service at the tank, then turning on the existing burner will consume the remainder of propane in the feeder line, which would then safely allow the feeder line to be disconnected from the burner and capped off yet left in place. Anyone done it this way?

That's exactly what I did! Be SURE that after you cap off the hose you check it for leaks with an electronic gas detector!

I got this one from Amazon last month. The price was good ($49) for an 1800 Watt unit. All brands seemed to get some bad reviews (sparking, burn out, etc). I know NuWave is the most popular, but at $99, I went for this cheaper unit to see if I like it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went with the 1800 Watt so I could boil water outside in a stockpot to get the heat and moisture out of the coach. The wattage is selectable to 15 settings so if I have limited power supply at a campsite I can kick it down to the 1300 watt or lower.

Just made spaghetti with it, pretty cool and brought water to a boil no problem.

Awesome...I though about the NuWave but not sure how good they are. That was why I was asking on here. With the NuWave, they are $99 but you get two...so you can cook your spaghetti like you said and then you can be making or heating up your tomato sauce too! Just don't know how good they really are!?!?!?!

I'm sure they are fine, they have a good reputation. I didn't see the 2 burner for $99.

I only saw their Pro 1800 watt for $99 https://www.amazon.com/NuWave-Highes...eywords=nuwave and the 1300 watts were $55 https://www.amazon.com/NuWave-PIC-30...eywords=nuwave.

The only 2 burner I saw was $199.

I did get their cookware - seems like a nice set and I've been using it at home on the gas as a trial run. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We have several of the NuWave 1300. Had one burn out after 5 years. Cheaper to replace than send for repairs.

Got most of them at Kohls. Priced at 99 before using your discount coupon. Many times get 30%. Unit comes with a fry pan.

Last time opted for the 1800 unit. 89 without pan.

Tried a cheaper unit from Walmart. It was not a good. Heat was inconsistent and not uniform. Replaced it shortly thereafter with the 1800 NuWave.
