Zackman, I just double checked that part number and it shows the 4440 to be the correct one for your ISX like mine, the 4430 shows to be for certain year M11 and certain year Detroits but no mention of the ISX. I can assure you that the 4440 is the right one and is starting my ISX just fine.
Randyman1,

Denso part #4440 was what I thought correctly applied to my coach's Cummins ISX 525 HP, but it did not fit. I ended up having the service center install a DelcoRemy Gear Reduction Heavy Duty Starter (looks exactly what I had on the engine before except the solenoid switch was bypassed on the starter removed probably because it was defective). The new starter turns the engine right over without any hesitation as it did before.

So far, I am satisfied. I now remove the starting batteries and have them on maintainers at the house when I know I will be down for a bit. I just reconnect when I run the coach on the road for its exercise twice monthly.

Zackman I wonder if your Denso starter was boxed wrong? I and several others on here with your same engine have installed the 4440 with no problem. The good news is that your engine spins over faster regardless of which starter was used.

That may have been a possibility and I am relieved that the engine quickly turns over now. I sure do not want to get stranded, especially out in the middle of nowhere, because of a starter.

I'm trying to order a starter for my Cummins 600 but am now confused as to which Denso part number is the correct part number to order 4440 or 4430? It is going in an 07 Signature with a Cummins 600 engine.

Where did you purchase the Denso starter? Seems to be lots of confusion on the posts as to the correct Denso part number. You sure 428000-4440 is the correct part for a ISX Cummins 600 engine.
Thanks,
Doug

Use a flashlight and look at the current starter and see if the solenoid is on the top or the bottom?

See post #11 in this thread Doug. I would think it would be the same. Only difference in the ISX horsepower is done with turbo and injection and possibly the head, block is the same and that is what the starter bolts on to.

And some of the Denso's have the mounting plate made so they can be rotated to fit although you do need to make sure the vent holes are toward the bottom.

Hi Mike,
Could you tell me where you got this image of the differences in the starters. I cannot see on the top clearly the website. I need to find the correct starter for my 2005 ISX 600 but according to Cummins the cummins number 5367754 is for 11 TPI and the denso 428000-4440 is for 10 Tooth.. but i can barely read on your picture a note about 10 tooth and 112/12 tooth. I cant make out what it says
Thanks
