Replacing Tires

My tires are now over 7 years old and the original Goodyear's have the rivering problem, so no Goodyear. O have the following pricing Michelin $4,310.00 with FMCA discount, Continental $3872.30, Bridgestone $3,681.16 and Friestone $3340.00. These are the prices for 6 275-80-R22.5 Load range H tires including taxes, mounting and balancing of the front 2 tires.
How I am looking for input from my IRV2 friends, is there any reason I should not get the Firestones? I know we all have opinions about which tire is the best but I am looking for reasons to avoid the Firestones since they are $1,000.00 cheaper than the Michelin's.

How many miles a year do you drive? Are all the tires you mentioned the same Load Rating?

Dave, I replace the 6 tires on my 05 HR Ambassador in June. I purchased the Hankook AH12. Mounted and balanced I have $2500 invested. Had a friend that is a dealer purchase the tires and hired 2 guys that run a road service repair to install and balance using the bead bags. I have driven it 2,000 miles and ride is improved. Plan on going down to Josams in Jan. and get the chassis aligned. I was torn between Firestone and Hankook. Chose Hankook because I have run them on my Miata for 20,000 miles with no problem. Put Hankook on your search as I believe they are a quality tire. I noticed most GM dealers sale them now.

Dave....I just went with the Hankook AH12's on the front of my coach. They ride GREAT and handle GREAT. I think they have a better ride than the GY's. I bought 2, but six would have been $2820.00 OTD

I put on four Firestone in one size larger than yours 18 months ago. They are very good tires. Or at least I can absolutely say that I have had no issues with the at all. When I bought the tires 18 months ago there was about the same gap in price with Michelin as you are getting. If Michelin was 15% more I would pay it. More than that no thanks.

When I bought the Firestones they were only 3 weeks old. Plus they are made in the USA. Those two items were very important to me. IMHO the US makes the best tires.

I put Firestone FS560 plus on mine in April. Mine are larger than yours (295/75/22.5)
I think they do great. I knew my tires would "age out" before wearing out.

Dave,

After months of research just installed 6 275-80r-22.5 Michelin XZA3+. Had GY and of course rivering. Made the purchase 5 weeks ago and at that time the FMCA quote was $3750. I ultimately bought them from a Loves Truck tire center here in Texas. They have them in Love Truck stops that are all over the US. They will buy back your old tires for $60 ea to sell to the truckers for their trailers.

I paid $3458 for 6 - mounted, spin balence & new stems. Not sure where you live but do a search for the Love's near you and check it out. I was extermely satisfied as I was not lookong to skimp on something as important as tires for an rv.

The Hankook product is an extremely good tire.

They are made in South Korea in a very modern facility.
They compare favorably with all the major brands
We fit them to a lot of our prime movers. They also cap well.

Thanks for all the help. For everyone who mentioned Hankook I have been looking for a dealer in the Bakersfield CA area. The Hankooktireusa.com web site keeps coming up as unavailable and what little I have found I have not seen the AH12 in Load range H only G. Any help in locating a dealer or knowing that they make a load range H in 275-80-R22.5 would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone for the feedback Just like the Hankook Tires I have found that many of the tire companies don't carry my current tire size 275/80R22.5. Can anyone tell me how much I can vary from that size larger or smaller without causing any problems?

295/75R22.5's are 3/4" wider and the same diameter.. They are considered a direct replacement.
