I've had Good Sam ERS for many years and have considered changing, but you can hear horror stories on every company. I just renewed it for another three years so we'll see what happens after that!

Can anyone tell me where they have found that Allstate RV Roadhelp does not have service? We have had it for years, but if this is true, we might reconsider, even though they have been terrific.

Bear one thing in mind, whatever you have. If you are in the middle of nowhere and Fred's towing is the only game around, all services probably have to use them unless you want to wait for hours.

About 3 years ago I broke down and my $2.00 dollar charge from Good Sam Insurance sent out not one, but two tow trucks to remove my drive shaft and tow the motor home to a facility to put a new fan belt on. The old one broke and wrapped itself around the pulleys. deSanford Folks that is all you have to pay. These $79.00 a year programs are just taking your money.

But they may have service in that area now. My experience happen September 2004. As I said they did get me a service truck. But it wasn't a sign and drive. I paid cash for service and Allstate paid me later after I sent the bill along with Allstate problem number they gave me at the time.

I started another thread yesterday on roadside assistance programs and my experience with a provider. Bottom line is that there are some ok providers, but there are some smart things you should do to help insure that a bad experience does not get worse. First, if you need to be towed, use your phone camera to get before pics of the motorhome or RV. Helps with claims if there is damage. Secondly, spend a few minutes and search for who you believe would be the best repair facility if you need to be towed. Most assistance providers say they will only tow to the nearest facility, but I have found that if you have a preference and know the distance to that provider and others that might be picked, you may be able to influence the outcome to your needs if the distances are small. Third, know your assistance providers policies about damages and claims. I understand some require you to use your RV insurance policy and they then pay the deductible. Last, I have found from experience that you need to spend a lot of time with the service desk explaining what you need. Reduces the chance of wrong wrecker, tools and skills being sent to your location. This seems obvious, but I have seen posts on other threads that seem to suggest that the RV owner expects the assistance provider to figure all that out for them.

I have used my roadside assistance program three times. Twice with a toad and once with the motorhome. I am money ahead on premiums. They damaged my motorhome when being towed and the before and after photos made the claims process work very quickly.

Thanks for the info. I did miss your #12 post. Glad that they came through in the end. I have had great luck with the three occasions I have used them, and each time was impressed by the tow operator's care in handling the rig.

Safe travels.
