It seemed very common down in Arizona to keep the pack rat critters,(or whatever they are called) out from under the coaches at night.
We opened the hood of the toad also as "they say" that helps.
I have never heard of the rope lights just for mice in the typical situations.

I'm trying to imagine what a CG with all RVs surrounded by rope lights turned on all night would look like.

Seems to me it would provide them with better lighting to find their way in

Well...I can attest to the pack rats. Left the hood down 1st night and they tore into the insulation under the hood. Hood open after that, no problem since.
I always thought the top lights were a decorative thing...now I am intrigued.

I stayed in Justin's Diamond J RV Park in Tucson AZ and just about everyone there had them. I googled it and the info I got was it doesn't work, however, I got some and put them around mine anyway. It any truth to it, I was willing. It was kind of neat to see all the lights around the coaches, travel trailers and fifth wheelers. Made the park look friendlier.

Rope lights on ground around coach .
Pack rats are nocturnal. Ever see one in daylight?
Rope lights. They won't cross em.
Neighbor didn't. $1500 in wiring and plumbing crap.
Down the street, a new Wrangler inoperable in 3 nights.
Another rig, a 5er, had several rattle snakes caught under his rig. They eat rats! When you hear critters in your basement, your ceiling, your walls, you is way too late!
Suit yersef!
My rig has not been gnawed ever, F/T 5 years ago. My Wrangler, in one night, got a nest with prickly pear stuffed around the battery. Dodged a bullet!
With rope lights the little boogers move on to darker targets.

Hi Dave,
Good info. Several rigs in the storage yard in Benson had pack rat damage and some of it was expensive. None of them were lit as far as I know.
Are you back at Justin Diamond? We're let last week and are meandering to Oregon to camp host for 4 months. If you are headed that way, drop me a note.
Cheers,

I heard that the mice have learned that the RV's with the lights on are the nicer ones so they go there first.
I leave mine off for that very reason, or slide them closer to my neighbor.

We use rope lights, but I keep sleeping in the coach at night, so I guess the lights don't keep all species of pack rats out of your rv.
