Cruise Control Doesn’t Cancel

My 2001 dynasty cruise control has to be turned off on the wheel. Hitting the brakes won’t turn it off. Has anyone had to fix this unsafe issue?

Hi Ken; Agree with Bob. Since we have air brakes, not sure if it is a pressure switch that turns on our brake lights.!!!! I have been under the dash when lubing the steering Colum and don't remember seeing any switch on the brake arm mechanism like you would see in a light truck or car. Also was not looking that hard for a switch either. Have you checked to see if your brake lights are working. I also assume if you use the cruise control on the steering wheel to bring up the engine RPM when idling, stepping on the brake pedal does not cancel the cruise and came back down to an idle.

First do as oilburner said and check to see if your brake lights come on. If they do your
brake switch is working. My brake switch is a pressure switch is on the drivers side in
the generator compartment. The brake light relay is in the electrical compartment left front. The cruise release is tied to the brake light relay.

Yes the brake lights do work. I would think it should cancel when you hit the brakes, as well as the pac brake.?

Typically, your brake lights come on when the pac brake activates so, yes, the cruise should cancel just as if you applied the brake pedal since both actions turn on the brake lights.

Some where between your brake light relay and your cruise control there must be an open circuit.
