I was cleaning up some wiring mess in my MH and discovered that my unit was not wired such that my 40" HDTV can display HD from the DVD or HDTV Satellite system. The DVD and satellite receiver are up front next to the small TV and the only cabling to the large TV is a composite video and audio cable.

My question is, how can I run new cabling between the front of the MH to the center of the unit? It looks like the factory wiring is overhead, but it doesn't appear as though the ceiling panels are removable and I don't see any other way to run the cables over head.

The picture attached shows the wiring mess. Why so many feet of excess wiring is left shoved behind panels is amazing. BTW, the satellite controller hardware all taped together in the photo was pushed behind a panel. It's now all nicely mounted in a shallow cabinet.

Thanks in advance,

Sorry to say, I don't have an answer for you. If you want another "surprise" look inside the console to the left of the drivers seat - another rats-nest, at least on my Neptune. It probably stems from the "one size fits all" mentality when making wiring harnesses. The wiring harness on my 34' rig looks like it would also fit a 36'.

One possibility would be to run your cable through the cabinets - I did this on one rig - there were continuous cabinets, I drilled holes in the sides of the cabinets back against the sidewall of the rig and ran the cables through that chase. I put plastic "latch duct" in to protect/hide the cables from whatever was in the cabinets.

Good Luck

Jim

I have heard of people running cables through the AC ducting. Take a look at the post on adding a third AC.

You have the added problem of the HDMI cable length limitations. Don't think it will work for that distance. At least not at 1080. Connect your cable first across the floor to make sure it works as you expect.

If it does, the AC ducts will probably be your simplest answer. Another option might be to come down inside the windshield pillar cover to the dash, then run underneath the coach and come up in the washer/dryer compartment behind the mid-TV.

Either way will be a challenge - as you already know. Good luck with it!

Gil...You may need to rethink the location of the sat receiver and DVD. Move them both to a cabinet near the TV (if you can) and use the coax cable that was transmitting from the front to the TV to run the sat signal through.

I ran the HDMI output out of my receiver directly to the main TV. Since you can't split the HDMI without an expensive 110v splitter box, I used the RCA plugs on the back of the receiver and ran them to a modulator which converted them to coax. My main TV is HD and bedroom TV is digital. The only other way around this is to add another box to the bedroom.

Thanks Don,

It was always my intent to move the Satellite receiver and DVD player to the area above the center TV. The area above the windshield currently used is simply too small and too confined to adequately ventilate the equipment.

I think I'm going to try running the cables in the storage bays.
