RR8S Shock Recommendations
At 60,000 miles I think it is time to replace the shocks. Looking for feedback on what others have used as well as who has the best prices.
Mine have the Top stud mount and through bolt bottom not the 2 through bolts i see most sites with.
The Bilsteins I find listed are the same Front & Rear. That seem right?
Looks like a fun job!
Thanks

I replaced all my shocks with Bilsteins back some time ago. I think the part number was the same all the way around.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I used Source shocks, 60mm up front and 46mm in the rear. Koni's are another good selection too!

Yeah, I think thats what he recommended for me. I Would think the 60s would be good for back to considering the unsprungmass back there.

One of our IRV members did an extensive test with shocks. He even drove it with no shocks. His final recommendation was the original inexpensive Monroes gave the smoothest ride.
I just did a quick search but can't find it. Maybe someone else will remember.

I have a 2006 Camelot PDQ (no tag) , that developed a pretty severe porpoise problem when crossing the box culverts on I-15 heading into California. I would have to warn the family when we were approaching one.
After a recommendation from another Monaco owner, I replaced the original shocks with Koni FSD shocks.
Problem solved.
Jim
Ordered them from Henderson's Line Up in Oregon, installed locally

Yes it can be for sure I agree, depends on your weights and distribution. My selection and Sources was based on weight at each end. Now that I have added many things to coach/ and carrying. I would do 60s all around. Meh!

I just recently replaced the four front shocks on the front of our Holiday Rambler 40sft. It had Monroes shocks on the front. The very front two were the originals and the back two were new a year ago. Our coach would porpoise way too much on rough area hiways or bumpy roads, got kinda wild a few times. When I took the old ones off, the very front two were DEAD, as in push in or out and they would stay where I left them. The back side front two new ones were very weak and very easy to push in.
The four Bilsteins I purchased at the shock warehouse were very tough to push up/in with one arm while I used my other arm in waiting to slip the bolt horizontally through the brackets and bottom of the shock. Using both arms would have been much easier with a helper to push the bolt through once aligned. I also installed the Watts System while I was under there. The shocks made a huge, I mean big difference in the ride but no more porpoising on our coach. The Watts system helped my steering quite a bit as well. All was good on our 3000 mile trial run to Wisconsin and back to the Dallas TX area.
Yes there are different shock numbers recommended for the rear 4 shocks on my Roadmaster chassis as well. Right now my rear 4 are the year old Monroes and I'll bet they aren't any good either.

Thank you! I could not find a different # for the rear, I had the same # for the front and the chart showed them for front & rear. Now to get them ordered and then the work begins!

I'd call Source Engineering and get their ride enhancement kit.

I replaced my Monroe's after 12,000 miles, they rode nice but could not control the dangerous porpoising. I installed Koni FSD shocks. The ride didn't change noticeably but the porpoising was gone.
I got them from Hendersons, Front: 8805-1016 and Rears: 8805-1017. RR8R chassis, stud on top.

After reading Harry's (Happycarz) report, after running both Bilstein's and Koni's, prefering the ride on the Koni's by far, if I were replacing mine again, thats the route I would go.
