We are considering making a trip to the Canadian Maritime later this year and are contemplating using a RV Tour company such as Fantasy RV Tours or Adventure Caravans. Has anyone had experience with these companies, or others, to the Canadian Maritime? Thank you for your feedback

We went on a 14 day Fantasy RV tour about two years ago after the Gillette Wyoming FMCA Rally. We had a great time and the tour was well organized and the folks working for Fantasy were great. One of the nice things about taking one of these tours is all the people you meet and share the experience with. We have remained friends with one couple we met on the tour and have since bumped into three other couples that were on the tour. These tours are a little more costly than if you did them on your own but they are in business to make a profit. If you prefer to pay someone to do the planning and make all the reservations for you then I say go for it. Keep in mind that the cost of the tour does not cover your expenses getting to and from the starting location. If for example you signed up for one of the Alaska tours there would be significant cost in getting to the starting destination. In a case like that you would want to see and do things on the way to and from the starting point. The only negative comment I will make is that the schedule at times was a bit fast paced for the wife and I. We prefer the Southern Style, lazy and laid back

We also went on a fantasy RV tour to Churchill MB. In General it was worth the expense. We had several private tours that we would have missed had we been on our own. However, they did start the travel day quite early and several of overnights were dry camping. Going with the group was enjoyable. I would recommend it as least one time. We did have some stresses in that the only diesel station in Thompson was closed when we arrived (open on the way out) and there were no motorhome propane supplies. (It was 30 degrees and we and others used propane for heat.) Also the Rally Master and TAil Gunner had 5th wheels and were not really up to speed on the requirements of keeping a motorhome supplied with fuel and propane.

You do get a very detailed trip log to show fuel stops but in my mind they were not detailed enough.

Other than that I would do it again if they offered a trip somewhere I still wanted to go.

Bob, thanks so much for your reply. I agree that the cost is high but then sometimes its easier to let them do all the leg work and show you sights that you wouldn't have seen should you plan our own trip. Happy and safe travels.

We went to Alaska with Adventure Treks out of Texas. Great adventure with a small group great planning and a relaxed pace. Much cheaper than others

We also want to take a trip there this starting out this late Spring and into Summer. We use the Trip Wizard to make our plans, reservations, etc. We like the option to schedule our own days and travel about 3--400 miles per day and spend 2-4 days at a site depending on the nearby sites.

We took two trips last year this way and had a great time. We toured the Southeast down to New Orleans, Florida panhandle, west coast and over to the east coast, up the coastline to Myrtle Beach and then home - for about 45 days. Then left in August and toured the Badlands, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and spent a week with our son in Oklahoma. This was a 50 day trip.

If you use adventure caravans our friends the Schmidts will probably be the tail gunners. They have done that route several times and everyone I have talked to said it was really will done and had great insight to local things to do and to avoid.

They bring the old Ive been everywhere song to mind and live in the dutch star and know the fun of rving...

We have gone to the Maritimes twice, traveling from Cape Cod, we did not use any tour company, but received detailed travel guides from the Canadian Gov. which helped us plan our trip. The Provincial campgrounds are 1st rate with full hookups and there are many excellent Pvt. Campgrounds. I see no need to pay for a tour group to the Maritimes unless you prefer to be free all all travel arrangements.

There are no special permits or documents required other than a Passport.
Caravan companies usually pay for campgrounds, etc.
You can get them cheaper using PA.
Investigate what you want to see and do, allow enough time to do it
AND ENJOY.
