Question Safari Cheetah 2005 muffler

I preface this by saying I have NO knowledge of mufflers, tailpipes, exhaust tips, etc., so I can only trust those who do to give me information about this. I am asking here for "real" people to help me so that I am not being "lead astray" by others. Thank you in advance.

Has anyone had to replace the muffler on this unit? We have been told that ours needs to be replaced. The only visible signs of wear are holes in the tailpipe. But, we are told, that the whole assembly needs to be replaced and it is a special order making it VERY expensive. Monaco gave me a part number for the muffler and a different number for the tailpipe assembly.

Question: does this mean they are two SEPARATE items, not attached, and can just the tailpipe assembly alone be replaced? Also, how does someone determine that the muffler itself is "bad" if the only visible signs of a problem are the holes in the tailpipe?

Do you have a Cat engine ? -- Post a picture of your muffler/tail pipe -- It is probably two pieces _ I have a Comelot with a Cummins & replaced my muffler with a Aero 5050 muffler -- You can google that muffler, & they did sell on EBay for about $115.00--I have the one that came off, & it is a good muffler - Where do you live ? I`ll give you the muffler, but you would have to pick it up in Gilbert,AZ -- Bill Willard

I replaced the entire exhaust system on my Freightliner XC from the turbo flex pipe all the way out the back for around $400 (used the Aero 4040). Easy job for the most part if you don't break the flange coming off the turbo

Thank you for your replies, and, Bill for your offer. We have decided to take the rig to a different repair facility for a second opinion before going for the whole job. We are hoping that we can replace the exhaust tip only as there doesn't appear to be damage to the muffler itself. I will also checkout the Aero you suggested.
