The Sanicon in my '09 Camelot works great but the 3" diameter inlet hose is a concern. It keeps getting a greyish material that seems to ooze through the hose itself and deposits on the outside. This also causes a bad smell in the wet bay.

Has anyone found a replacement hose that will stand the suction and not allow odors to permeate through it?

I have replaced ours twice for the same problem. Got the heavy duty hose (gray) from camping World and cut to length. The hose is not a exact fit and requires the rubber ring that you will find when you remove the old one. It is a bit of a task to get the new hose on over that ring. I ended up using some 3M double face tape that I got at a auto parts store to increase the diameter. The heavier hose stands up to the suction with no problem.

John,

Just like Chuck, we replaced our original Sanicon 3" hose because it caused a bad smell both in the service bay and under the sink in the bathroom. Just used a high quality gray sewer hose. It was a bit of a problem getting it to seal on each end. The large rubber bands that came with the Sanicon did not work well with the standard sewer hose. I ended up wrapping a large amount of electrical tape on the receiving connections before slipping the hose on. Then I used hose clamps and once they were tight I wrapped them with electrical tape. Seems to work fine now and I love not having to smell that smell every time I open the service bay door.

Also had the smell but there was no sign of any grayish deposit, just the odor every time I opened the compartment. Plus I didn't like the way the 3 inch hose came out towards the front of the compartment taking up so much room. Removed the gray hose, turned the outlet around to the back, and also reversed the Sanicon. Had to shorten the hose and used tape instead of the rubber ring. Used the same hose and have had no smell for several years now. Don't know it it was the rubber rings or the longer hose that made it smell originally, but whatever it was, it is gone. Plus the 1 inch hose now faces towards the front instead of the rear.

Same as "nodine" and "Our Time".......I replaced the hose with a heavy duty one from Camping World. No more smell.

I've had the same problems and called Thetford about it. Of course "this is the first time we've heard of this problem"...

I also called MaceratorPumps looking for a replacement hose. They are aware of the problem but also haven't found a solution. I used the heftiest hose I could find from Camping World to replace it.

I urge all who have this problem to call Thetford and let them know clearly that the Sani-Con literally stinks!
