I love the SaniCon on my Monaco, but have not figured out the grey water bypass. I talked to the SaniCon guy at the Monaco rally, and he suggested a few things. Made sense when he was talking about it, but didn't do much to get my grey tank draining. I tried "priming" it, and did everything short of putting my lips around the end of the hose to get it started by suction

Anyone have luck keeping their grey tank valve open while connected and having the grey tank empty thru the SaniCon?

Kev,

I don't think our Sani-cons come with the "optional grey water bypass system". It has an additional t fitting that allows the grey water tank to be drained without running the pump motor.

If I understand you correctly, the bypass of which you speak is that little stub of clear tubing down by the motor that will 'bypass' (to coin a phrase) the pump assembly, yes?

Mine has it, and yes it has clogged up before with small bits of food/stuff that gets past the strainer in the sink. Therefore, I've never been a big fan of it - concept is good but dunno about the execution, tho. Besides, mine is more like a 'drip' than a drain, it's extremely slow. The washer/dryer will easily overpower it and it takes forever to drain even just that water.

For the most part our bypass works well. We usually have six people in the rig and all those showers and dishwashing and laundry must keep the bypass clean. It did not work once and I turned on the pump for 30 seconds and it worked great after that. It sounds like if you have a high solids to liquid ratio in your grey discharge it will clog the by pass.

Just finished draining tanks from last trip and there is definitely not a bypass set-up on mine.

Thanks for the tips. Seems that I am going to have to open up my compartment a bit more to see if I have the bypass. I suppose I just assumed that it was there - didn't realize that it is optional.

Not that I've ever been guilty of tugging a thread off-topic myself (

), but since there's a lot of good discussion here on wireless-remotes that aren't really related to Sani-Con usage, it'd probably be a good idea if y'all started a new topic.

That way, anyone searching for information about the various remotes out there can quickly find it, and also learn how best to keep up with Sani-Con nuances (be sure to wash your hands afterwards!).

Ron, Have I missed something, where is the discussion about remotes? Your tugging this thread off topic, unless the remote topic has been moved.

Regarding the SaniCon, I can drain my gray tank without running the Sanicon, I do make sure the by-pass tube is clean.

Ok, either I've been hitting the Nyquil bottle too hard this past week (and am even-more delusional that usual), or a couple posts in here were deleted by their owners.

The Sani-Con topic (jeez, at least I THINK it was this topic

) wandered off into a very informative discussion about some programmable remote-controls that are available. I was hoping they'd keep the discussion going, because I thought it had some very good material and wanted to see it grow under its own topic.

Perhaps the OP's will be so kind as to re-start it?

I am like Ronboc, the direction of the converstation was great. I too have the Sanicon
but without the by-pass. I can see where the by-pass would work well. So far I've had no problems with dumping tanks. The size of the tanks do cause an increase in the frequency to dumb. I have found you can't dump the gray tank
thru the sanicon without runing it through the pump. I went on the Web for Sanicon however, I
found nothing that would help explain how the by-pass would work in my set up. Anxious to read more.. Getting warmer, nicer days in the SW

Sorry for messing with you. We cleaned up the remote discussion so that we could keep this discussion on topic.

I have still not found out if I have the bypass, but am figuring that I do not now. I didn't know it was an option till SacsTC mentioned it.

I am thinking about two options: doing the by-pass myself, or buying the old skool big drain hose.

I looked at the bypass at the rally and it is very simple - the PVC connectors are drilled, clear tube connected with 90 degree bend fittings. Seems like one of those projects that I can really screw up...

I would hate to buy the big drain hose. I love how nice and clean the SaniCon system is. Not looking forward to rinsing and storing the monster hose.

I suppose at the end of the day it is not such a big deal, but we have started using our washer/dryer (which is awesome by the way), and I have to empty the grey tank each day. Just don't want to forget and have a sudsy surprise in the shower basin.

I suppose I can stop with the laziness and just empty the **** thing every day or so...

digNbubbs.....I'm guessing that the factory installed Sanicons have the bypass. I had the same problem and even added a "T" to blow it out when necessary. Finally, I called Sanicon and told them of my problem. They recommended the following: Remove the clear tubing from the fitting closest to the Sanicon unit. Unscrew the fitting/barb one or two turns. I was able to unscrew mine two turns without it being too loose. Reconnect the clear tubing.

This moves the fitting/barb out of the main flow of water and helps it keep from getting it clogged.

Our Sanicon is factory installed and there definitely is no bypass. I figure that little extra may be standatd on the $400k or higher rigs

You had some good first-hand user information on the handheld remote-controls, but then y'all went and deleted those posts

. My intent was NOT to squash any discussions, but more to keep things separate and easier to find if anyone uses the search engines.

Any chance you could start up a new topic on the remotes? With all the electronic gadgetry/wizardry we have in our coaches these days (and the dozens of accompanying remotes that seems to get/stay lost), I bet a lot of folks are interested in which ones work and which don't.
