Do I need a frontal lobotomy??
>Not yet! But continue reading...

Note:
I'm assuming that your old DirecTV box (DTV-box) had 3 coax connections attached to it (Satellite; Antenna; TV). If it didn't, then I'm the guy that needs the lobotomy!! So let's take this one step at a time.....

"Isnt an RF modulator used to convert the old flat cable to coax??"
> No. You may be thinking about a balun: Coax in; 300-ohm (flat wire) connection out.

"How is that box [the Radio Shack box -- RSb] going to get the signal from the air antenna into the [new] receiver?"
> The RSb won't be used to "get the signal into the new receiver". It can't do this. It's going to bypass the new receiver.

What it will do:
The RSb has an RF-input jack .... and that is where you will connect your roof-mount antenna coax (currently dangling, unconnected, right?). Just to be clear, I'm talking about the antenna coax that used be be attached to the "Antenna In" jack on your old DTV receiver.

>Next we need audio and video out of your new DTV-box.
Connect a short, 3-conductor coax cable (with RCA terminations, both ends) from the following outputs of your new DTV box: Right-audio-out; Left-audio-out, and Video-out. You've probably seen these cables before....which are color-coded: Red for Right-audio, White for Left-audio, and Yellow for Video. The other end of this 3-conductor cable-set goes to the R, L, & V inputs of the RSb. Why? The RSb will now "modulate" your new DTV-box outputs ... and this modulated signal comes out the RF-output-jack on the RSb and is therefore sent to your TV on channel 3.

>Please study the RSb diagram on page 3 of the user manual (link provided above).
As you study this diagram, substitute your new DTV-box for the box labeled "DVD Rear View" as shown in the diagram lower right. The 3-conductor cable I discussed above is the "A/V Cable" in this diagram. If you would rather use an S-video cable, you can, but you'll still need an audio (stereo) cable for R & L channels.

>Finally, the RF-out-jack of the RSb gets the coax "To TV" connection that was on your old DTV box. This cable too is now dangling (unconnected, right?) because your new DTV box doesn't have an RF-out jack.

>What is not currently dangling is your satellite coax cable. That's because you have already connected this coax cable to the new DTV-box "Satellite In" connector.

>So how does all this work?
The RSb is a smart box. It knows that if there is no input from your new DTV box (because you've turned it OFF), the RSb will internally connect the TV antenna to your TV. If you understand this sentence, this is exactly what your old DTV box would do when it was turned off. Similarly, when your new DTV-box is turned ON, the RSb will internally disconnect the roof antenna, and then it will modulate your DTV-box signals onto channel-3....and it will shoot that signal out to your TV. Again: this is what your old DTV-box did.

Hope this helps.

I'm going click on "Post Quick Reply" now.....even though this is not.

you have two choices here... an AM21 from DirecTV to add OTA to your sat box and use a single source in for your tv or just hook the coax for the antenna to the TV and use it's tuner if it's HD or feed a converter box for ATSC tuning and run that to a different input on the TV.

Tom,
Much better solution than mine. Good to know that the AM21 "box" is available.

I see you've found the image of the back of the receiver. There is a manual online here. It doesn't have a place to connect an OTA antenna. You could run the antenna to the switch box instead of connecting it to the receiver.

Moisheh,
You understand correctly (well: close enough!). The RSb does/will send signals to your front HDTV over an RF (black) coax cable...but from what I now know about your rig, you may not have such a cable in place. From what has been posted, it seems that your only "receiver-area -to- TV" cable is that of an HDMI cable (and that ain't a bad thing). Only you can clarify. If you only have the HDMI cable between these cabinets, that's why Tom's suggestion of an AM21 box is a solution where you don't have to install new cabling.

There is a distinct difference that should be understood between Tom's suggestion and that which I'm offering. The distinction is: Where will you tune-in Over The Air (OTA) antenna channels? With the RSb, your HDTV will tune in OTA channels. With the AM21 box, OTA channel-tuning will be done within the AM21.

RobI: You are correct. There is only one coax that goes to the TV. That is the one for cable TV. I had previously tried to insert a splitter and use that coax for the antenna. Monaco had sent me a diagram but it turns out it is not for my unit. I have a signal generator but left it in Mexico. There are at least 2 existing splitters. One is a 4 way and the other a 2. Also the Winegard amplifier is used as a splitter. Push the button in and it uses the antenna. Push again and it is cable TV. I assumed that the center connection on that amplifier is the coax that goes to the TV. But maybe I did not pick up the right coax from the antenna. You cannot believe the cabling mess in that cabinet! I will have to remove the receiver and the control box for the dish. Maybe then I cvantrace the cables with an ohmeter. Most are marked but unless you speak"Monaco" it is hard to understand. Thanks for your help and patience. May take me a few days as we just got back from down south and are still unpacking. One other thing thaT came to mind: My unit is an 08 but was built in late 07. I wonder if the antenna is digital or analogue? We have never had ocassion to use the antenna and dont know if it ever worked?

One piece of good news: Your roof antenna will work with the new digital (HDTV) OTA signals no matter its date of manufacture. Enjoy your unpacking!

gg. Good to see true documentation. FYI, we've established that Moisheh doesn't have the RV coax proceeding from his DTV receiver cabinet to the TV cabinet (nor, presumably, to the multi-switch area/cabinet from the receiver cabinet) as your documentation shows. That's because his old receiver (H20) had no RF/TV (channel-3) output, so Monaco just didn't install such a cable. Now to add insult to injury, his new H22 doesn't have an RF/antenna input. What fun.

gg,
Where did you get the cabling diagram for the Holiday Rambler? Do you have any idea where I could get one for a 2011 Monarch?
Thanks

I called the Safari 24 hr help line back in 2009. The tech helped me through my Direct TV/ Sat hook up and I ask for a Diagram and was sent this. If you notice it was for most of the Monaco products, But my 2009 was not wired like the one shown on the Diagram but it is usefull and has helped.

This was in the timeframe of the Bankrupcy and as a new owner who lost out of warrenty work, ect. The tech people helped me when I was new to MH game.

If you have a question call your help line and ask the tech for the diagram ect. You may get lucky, maybe the new Monaco will sent you a complete disc of the wiring, plumbing, ect. Good luck

Tahnks GG: Mine is quite different than those diagrams. I do not have a switch box and mine is an HD system with HDMI cables. But I am sure that diagram will help other owners.
