I am trying to hook up my stand alone satellite direct TV dish in my 07 Diplomat for the first time because my dome cannot find the satellite. I tried to hook up by connecting the cable to the satellite connection in the electrical bay but could not get a signal from the meter. I ended up just running the cable direct to the reciever and got it working. Any help with how to use the connection in the bay instead of running the wire through the window would be appriciated.

Not an expert but every mh I have had (bought used) the previous owner had run a separate coax cable for the sat. In the stick house I had last that was pre-wired for cable the sat folks ran a separate coax as well. Splitters that work for cable do not work for satelite.

Have you ever used the external Satellite connection on the RV before? Have you ever used the external cable hookup connection before?

If no, the coax may be reversed or disconnected someplace. The Sat hookup needs to be a direct connection. That is, it can not go through the roof antenna amplifier board like the cable connection does. You could try connecting an extra length of coax externally and running it in through the window/door to where the other end is supposed to be. Check the center tap at both ends with an ohm-meter and you should get zero ohms. Also check the coax center tap to the coax ground wrapper. Should be infinity.

Del, on my Monaco I have to push a little button on my antenna amplifier/cable selector box to have it switch to the cable coming from the bay. In my manual it is called the Shore Cable/Roof Antenna Selector Switch and it normally has a little red LED on it and a gain adjustment knob. The little push button switch has to be in the out position to get Shore Cable input. The switch unit is normally the size of a 110v outlet and is cream colored.

On my 09 Dynasty I had to bypass the splitter leading to the antenna/cable switch, seems the satellite signal won't go thru a splitter

If your MH does not have a seperate cable and hookup for satalite, you can use a diaplexer to do it for you. Satellite Diplexer: Signal Combiner and Splitter

I'm pretty sure that a Diplexer is not your solution .... because you pretty-much stated that you have both "cable" and "satellite" RF connections in your electrical bay. That's what I have (Dip, '04).

So...
We need to answer the question: Where does the "satellite" connection (in the electrical bay) terminate within the coach? Mine terminates in the Hughes sat receiver cabinet which, in my case, is above the driver's left shoulder. In that cabinet is a 3-jacked mini-panel (F-style RF connectors). One of these F-jacks carries the sat receiver's output (on channel 3) to the TVs. The other two F-style jacks represent (1) the roof/dome sat antenna and the other (2) is the termination from the electrical bay. For my rig, Monaco provided me an 18" coax connection attached at jack (2), but just laying unterminated behind the Hughes box. So, to use my "sat" connection from the electrical bay is to perform some labor at the rear of the Hughes box: remove the "dome" connection from the Hughes box and attach the "electrical bay" connection. There are "coax" switches that make this job a little easier.

Sorry, I missed that info when reading the orig. message. I agree with Robi, a diaplexer will be of no help if you have a dedicated cable for satalite hookup.

I have only one line, for the cable, running to an external compartment. Can I use that line to run a portable satellite antenna?

I too have an 07 diplomat. On mine the connections in the rear bay were reversed. The one marked cable was Satellite and the Sat one was the cable. So just try reversing the connections.

Good luck

You can use 2 diaplexers and the cable can be used for cable tv and satalite. Satellite Diplexer: Signal Combiner and Splitter

I've used this: http://monacorv.com/contact.html with a pre-bankruptcy coach with great success. Ask a specific question and in a day (non-holiday weekend) I got a specific response, including pertinent schematic for year/model coach.

Take care,
Stu

On our 01 Ambassador, it only had a house cable input. I put in a AB switch so that the house cable either went to the receiver on A or the Cable in in the multi-switch to cable on B. Many of the newer dishes will not work with a pure Splitter in the line, so a dedicated line may have to be run from a convenient spot. The use of AB switches worked for us but Diplexers will also work. Good luck Happy Trails Bert
