Scan Gauge D

i need some advice. i put in a scan gauge d in my 04 endeavor. it just threw a code 111 when i look up this code on the cummins site it tells me that it is the engine control module internal failure-bad intelligent device or component. ok like will this leave me stranded? it this why my mileage took a dump this last trip? does this need to go to cummins? can i do this myself?? of course this has to happen just before the holiday. thank you for you help

The Scan gauge is a useful tool, I have one, but a performance issue along with a trouble code dealing with the ECM should be further diagnosed by Cummins. Their diagnostic machines are far more sophisticated and might give a clearer picture as to the problem. Replacing an expensive component based on just that code is risky, what if it doesn't fix it?

I have the Scan Gauge D and only use it for a reference indicator of the information it supplies. deSanford

Clear the code and see if it is thrown again. Sometimes a code is not a code. Or as others have said visit your friendly Cummins dealer to read and decode. Another possible is a loose connection.
