I have solved my sewer odor problem.
All of the better vent caps mfg's. like 360 vent cap, claim that their vent cap produces a (-) negative tank pressure, so when you flush the toilet, fumes don't rise.
Well, it ain't so! Especially if you have an electric toilet.
Certain wind directions, wind currents, and other things like direction of travel will cause problems. After 5 RV's, I had almost given up.
But today, I removed panels, found the sewer vent pipe going up to the roof, and installed a brand new, patent pending device that actually produces a steady negative tank pressure, even flushing multiple times.
And, it also draws fumes from the sink drains as well, simply by turning on the 12 volt vanity lights in the bathroom.

BillyC:

Care to tell us where to find/buy this device. Sure a lot of folks have the same problem.

Thanks

Are you wanting to load them from your computer or a on line photo storage site?

OK, I am going to try and explain what I did to fix the sewer odor problem, and submit photos as well.
First, I had to find an access to the vent pipe going to the roof vent.
Of course, on some RV floor plans it may be impossible to get to the vent pipe.
On my 2005 Dynasty Bishop IV, I found that pipe in a chase behind the narrow cabinet located between the frig. & shower. I had to remove the cabinet doors, remove the shelves, then remove the back panel of the upper cabinet, exposing the 1.5” pipe.
I then cut out a section of the pipe, and installed the 12-volt “exhaust blower”. Details later (see photo).
From inside the bathroom vanity cabinet, I drilled a hole in the starboard side roof, ran a wire from the back of my vanity light fixture over the roof (using 5200 & stainless loop clamps) and down another hole on the port (passenger) side entering the pipe chase. This supplies 12 volts to the exhaust fan when the vanity light is switched on.
The exhaust blower was a trial & error.
On the first try, being a boater, I figured that a 3”, 135 cfm bilge blower would do the trick. I got two PVC 3” to 1.5” fittings, and put the blower in the 3” ends. Using two 1.5” rubber hose slip fit pipe repair fittings, I was able to install the blower on the pipe.
But when I used a test 12-volt jumper wire from the vanity light switch, the bilge blower proved to be way too powerful, and too noisy as well. Also, it drew 3.7 amps, which is too much current for the wire size on the vanity fixture. I mean this thing would definitely put a negative pressure on the sewer pipes, but would probably stink up any RV park, resulting in my being asked to leave for sure.
Starting over, I still used 3” x 1.5” PVC fittings, but this time I used a brushless, 3”, 33 cfm computer fan from Radio Shack, drawing only 160 Mili-amps. It is rated at 20,000 hours continuous use. I ground off the fan’s corners, installed the fan inside one fitting, drilling a small hole for the wires. I used a small piece of 3” PVC pipe to enclose the fan between the two fittings.
I retested and it seemed to work, and much quieter. I flushed the toilet three or four times, one after another, and had no odor at all rise from the toilet while the dump plate was open.
To test further, I lite a match directly over the “stink hole”, flushed, and could actually see the smoke drift downward, entering the black tank.
Done deal.
Spending half a day, and $25 doing this – an adventure.
Not ever sniffing poop and sewer odor “eliminator chemicals” – PRICELESS!

Interesting concept, thank you.

I will admit I had to read faster right at the point where you started posting about lighting the match above the toilet

Right! I thought about the methane gas right AFTER I finished the test.
I could have been included in the Darwin Awards.
WHEW!
