Sewer Smell under kitchen sink
Anybody have an idea why I would have a sewer smell under my kitchen sink, the hotwater heater is under there and it gets worse when it is heating up.

On our Monaco 5th wheel
The smell was coming from the P Trap. We poured lemon grey water treatment in the tank and that took care or it. Been adding treatment to grey water ever since.

There may be an in line vent that has gone bad, it is common and not expensive to replace. It is under the cabinet and at the top of a black pipe vent pvc. They are available at Home Depot etc. and just screw out by hand, Good Luck!

If your kitchen is in a slide, might check the flex hose for the drain. Mine cracked and ohh what a smell. The hose finally cracked enough to leak then I found, fixed and no more smell.

I don't know if it's true of RV hot water heaters but, in household use, a hot water heater can give off a sulfur or "rotten egg" smell from the anode.

What Stink said. If the sink is in a slide, check the flex plumbing for a crack or leak. We had to replace part of ours as a fitting broke, not the flex part. Hope this may help, Happy Trails, Bert

Two years ago we had a tire blowout on the inside rear drive axle. This was in our 2001 Ambassador. The tire tread did a lot of damage including breaking the main propane line feeding the furnace and hot water heater. We had the damage repaired by a national camping supply that will remain un-named. (CW). When we got it back we went on a five day trip during which we kept our grandson.
My DW kept saying she smelled a sewer odor coming from under the bathroom sink. I smelled it a couple of times,it could not pin it down. When we got home and parked the coach I started smelling the sewer odor on the outside of the coach. When I stuck my head near the wheel well the odor changed to a propane smell. I found two things that were very scary. A soapy water test revealed a leak in a propane pipe fitting installed in the repair. A visual inspection of the underside of the wheel well revealed a two inch by six inch long hole that had not been closed in the repair. The hole lead to the area directly under the bathroom sink.
I know I should have been able to tell the difference between sewer and propane. After I got a good enough whiff of it I did. My propane detector never went off inside, but I figure, based on my records I lost about 15 gallons of propane, one little bubble at a time. Far worst than that, I could have lost my grandson or my DW.
You mentioned this smell is in the area shared by some propane fed devices. Please be sure you that smell down to a positive conclusion. Hopefully it is just a smelly p trap. Let us know what you find.

I replaced the air admittance valve today, I hope that takes care of it. I will let everyone know.
