After reading the article in the current FMCA magazine I finely had it explained on how to drive my MH using the Econ mode. I have been on a trip and driven close to a 1000 miles. I have been very good at staying at 55 while on the freeway. My first fill-up mileage was 9.4 and my second fill up was 10.2....... First leg involved climbing Highway 58 to Lancaster then through Joshua Tree National Park (north to south) I-10 and filling up at Arizona exit 1 at the Flying J.. Second leg was to Kartchner Caverns State Park (mostly flat) and doubling back and filling up at Flying J in Eloy Az.. I am now at Dead Horse State Park and will be filling up in the next few days...
I think key word THINK I was getting around 8 miles a gallon but now that Diesel is over $4.00 I am a lot more careful

wouldn't this require 2 polls?
no validity in this not knowing if flat or grades when the vote is made

When I had the shift points changed in my tranny the tech told me to always drive in economy in or out of cruise. I have done this for the past 7000 miles. I shift down manually when coming to a steep grade to maintain a better power curve while in cruise.

There was only 4 items allowed on "polls" so people are free to comment on how they drive up or down hills or on flat land with NO winds etc. I voted for ECONOMY with cruise. I also had my TCM recalibrated by Pacific Allison in Coberg, Ore. like Matchayan. I also down shift manually when my EGT on my PYRO gauge goes over 1250. It makes the ride more "FUN" with all the differant ways of manageing the MH's trans and engine. deSanford PS most of the time the TCM "talks" to the ECM and I watch the gauges.

I`ll probably be the only one in this poll who use no cruise, & very seldom the ecno mode -- I drove OTR Trucks for years in the 60`s & 70`s & Interstate Highways, & 4 lane`s were few -- 300hp was a big horse, & exhaust brakes were unheard of -- In the 60`s the front wheels didn`t have brakes, just spindles -- I still use my foot as the cruise, & my finger to down shift on pulls, & down grades -- My fuel mileage on our 400ISL , 42ft Camelot, with a 4000lb toad is overall (52,000 miles) 7.6, & I usually drive at 65mph on the open road --The ecno mode, & cruise MAY help fuel mileage, but I don`t think so -- Bill Willard

My OM tells me to use econ in town, my right foot tells me to use cruise on the flats and experience tells me to pay attention and drive the damn thing in the mountains.
