Shocks;

I need a little help!I have been reading up on all this shock stuff and decided I probable could use new shocks.I checked and it has the original monrows on it. I tried to order some bilstein but could not match any thing with my coach.I even called the mfg. and they had no match. I have a 2002 Holiday Rambler 40ft. d/p Endeavor, roadmaster chassi, 8 shock sys. Every one says they diden't make Endeavor till 2004! I tell them there's a lot of them out there not to have made any. Any way can some one that has the same unit as I have and has put shocks on lately and has apart # help this old man. Either bilstein or konis, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Go for the Koni FSDs. You can try emailing them to see if they now which ones you need.

I agree about the Koni FSD shocks. Best I've ever had and they made a huge improvement on my Diplomat over and above the stock Monroes.

The Koni web site has an application drop-down table that includes all Monaco chassis from 1993.

RR I found the Bilstein at shock warehouse but they do not show the Bilstein comfort shock and that is the one I would susgest. the shock they show for the 02 Diplomat and the 02 Endeavor (Same Chassis) PT# 24-187305 also check with Eshocks they did have the best price but cant find the Roadmaster chassis on their site and I tried to call but to late they were closed for the weekend.
The Koni are good shocks but get ready for a lighter back pocket.

You pay for what you get. I got them for 119 a piece. The Bilsteins I had would disintegrate kidney stones.

I got new, revalved Bilsteins at Source Engineering.
If you get what you pay for these are the best shocks around at $169 a piece.

But they really are smooth and do not need adjustment.

Also have the 2002 Endeavor - so you have it right although sometimes these computer sites are the least " interesting " as ours has the same suspension also . Haven't replaced the items yet as the previous owner did so @ 20 K ago and they are Monroes .

The normal price for Koni are usually around that or more. Not sure what you mean by "adjustment".

Last year I replaced the OEM Bilsteins on my 2001 Dynasty (one was leaking) with the revalved Bilsteins from Source Engineering. The new shocks were an improvement and I thought well worth the money. I recently purchased a 2009 Foretravel Nimbus on their 8 bag Travelride chassis with Koni shocks. The ride and handling of both coaches is similar. Anybody interested in a well maintained Dynasty with near new shocks?

Clean off the bottom of a shock with solvent, brake kleen, wire brush, etc so you can see and record the numbers. Do one front and one rear. Sometimes both are the same number, but not on all. Once you have the numbers, you can cross reference them to the Bilsteins or Koni's.

Now let me be clear, I am a Christmas tree grower, not a shock expert.
But here is the conclusion I came to.
The Bilstein is a harsher shock to start with, and thus has to "work itself in" after a few miles. (maybe thousands).
The Koni's are a softer shock so many more folks like that shock upon installation, but then it gets softer. I thought I read that Konis could be adjusted, but that maybe just me being wrong.

I did find this link below to be of some help in understanding shocks and how they work.

I'm no shock expert either, but here is what I know. Shocks are designed to dampen movements at a designed range. There are various methods to make this happen. For my coach, I wanted something that will dampen or eliminate the road imperfections as much as possible, and at the same time remain stiff on slower movements. In other words, get rid of all the energy that's transferred to the inside of the coach by pot holes cracks, etc, but help out with the slower movement that occurs when you hit winds, etc.

The Bilsteins that came stock with the coach were stiff all the way around. Not sure what model they are, but pretty sure it's not the revalved ones. While on the road, you could really feel the road and both side shades would rattle a lot. I installed Koni FSDs and all of that road noise is gone. Now, they are supposed to help with the slower roll movement, but I haven't driven it enough to see if they help.

BTW, the Koni FSDs are not adjustable. I wish they were so you can further dial them in. That would be a plus not a minus.
