Shoreline Power Cord Retriever #C50D

I need a little help from yu pros. I bought a (used) C 50 D shoreline elect. cord retriever. Got it installed and every thing looked good, installed as I think I was sopposed to. Hhanged my existing plug and put it on the pig tail, pluged it in and blew a fuse. Works great when not pluged in to power cord, but when you plug in power cord it draws a lot of current. What am I doing wrong???

Since I don't personally have one maybe THIS will help.

Or a call to their technical service department and talk with them directly.
