Slide cable

Now I'm a member of the fix your broken cable slide club. Today routed a new (purchased from Amazon) slide cable. To do the job right I also purchased a swagging tool and a cable cutter. I now have two spare cables and the tools to do the job for any future issues. The best price I was quoted was a minimum of $250.00 and a ridiculous quote from McMahans RV for 5 hours at over $100.00 an hour. Tools and 3 cable kits came to less then $200.00 and now I own a couple of useful tools. Thanks to the internet for instructional videos on how to do the cable change out. Oh by the way my wood covers were "pin nailed" with NO silicon. My son AAron suggested we use VELCRO to put the decorative covers back on. What a great idea and it does work.......easy on and easy off. deSanford

Yep, I've found it much better to learn to do a job and purchase the tools.

Now, about learning from my son......?

If it is any consolation you have one of the nicest floor plans that a motor home can have. deSanford

That is why I am putting up with all the problems. But that full length slide still spooks me...

Navistar RV in Coburg (service center) adjusted my full wall slide and tightened up (what ever needed tightening) and used blue lock tight to keep everything on the slide tight. I now carry special tools and a couple of cable kits just in case. So far no frayed cables on the big one (yet). deSanford

On the 2012 the BIG problem is that there is no way to remove the cover over the slide motor area. It appears to be all nailed down and there are no fasteners showing. It is still a mystery to me.

Navistar RV uses "pin" nails. They are just like the name implies. Very small nails that are shot into the wood with a air operated nail gun. I used a flat bladed putty knife. Slide it in and pry. I was lucky they only put 4-6 nails into my decorated wood facial on my small dinette slide. The motor should be in the middle top of your large slide. Call the service reps in Coburg, and they could confirm where the motor is located. Navistar RV has a reputation of changing things. deSanford

How long is your cover? Mine has two, one about 20 feet and the other about 10. I can't see any way other than to start prying to remove them. But before I do that, I am going to call Coburg for their input.

They should PAY since you are still under Warranty (I believe). Yes if you are beyond the warranty call for some input. Some people we met in Coburg come there every 2 years or so to get issues fixed. We found some good restaurants during the 3 times we made the trip there. At this moment in time all my "issues" are currently fixed. I'm now ready for a uneventful trip. Unfortunately it won't be until October for the Navistar RV Monaco Club outing at the Balloon Festival in New Mexico. Then again no guaranty it will be an "uneventful" trip. For me the journey in the motor home is my favorite destination. deSanford

Under warrenty until Feburary. I stay in contact with the west coast rep and I plan on hitting him up for some "gifts" to help offset the time I have spent doing their job...
I am off to Santa Fe, NM tomorrow for a few days. Maybe this trip will be an "uneventful" trip

In my warranty time "Navistar RV" must have spent over $7,000.00 for work to correct poor construction practices. deSanford
