I have a 2008 Holiday Rambler Vacationer XL with cable activated slides on the wardrobe and main living area. The bedroom slide is gear driven.

Has anyone had fraying problems or broken cables on their slide assemblies? I recently broke a cable on the living room slide and know of another party with the same unit as myself who has also had cable fraying and breakage issues.

Thank you very much in advance for your replys.

Regards

I expect W. Willard will respond on Wednesday AM. I believe he may have had issues on his Camelot.
kinda ...what are the slide assemblies on Monaco products? I know about the cable & the ram...but I am sure there is at least one more - but Sacs is already asleep...

Lash -- William W. here -- Yes, I did have a problem with the slide cables -- I have a 07 Camelot that we purchased in April of 07 - A very short time later I noticed one of the top cables broke on the bedroom slide - The slide was still working, so I don`t know how long it had been broke -- I called my dealer, which was in another state,& they sent me another cable, but no info on how to replace it -- I went to 2 local Monaco authorized repair centers, & they had no idea how to replace the cable, so I posted a plea for help, & someone informed me of a web site on these slides -- If you google Accu-Slide, you will find the web site -- It has a video -- It is a 8 cable/pulley system -- In the video, it takes the instructor a very short time to replace the cable, it took me over a day -- If you catch the cable before it breaks, not a big deal, but if it breaks, you`re in for a bad day - I now carry a spare kit that I purchased from my dealer for $45.00 & hope it was wasted money -- Maybe someone can lead you to the thread that was on this forum last year -- If I can be of any help, contact me-- Bill Willard

Bill:

Thanks for the prompt reply on this problem. Luckily I have a authorized Monaco repair shop within 6 miles of the house and the shop manager was a Wildwood Fla employee previously who has experience in cable systems.

They have looked at my system which has one broken cable and two frayed cables. Another person I know has the same coach and has had the same problems two different times.

The particular slide on my coach is a dropped floor type and I noticed in the Accu Slide video that you always want the pull to be straight. Not sure how this is possible on a dropped floor unit. (Our slide goes down at the end of the travel to get a flushed floor for the living area.) Otherwise they say you will get fraying from the standoff guide when the coach is in motion.

We also have the same system on our wardrobe slide and it works fine.

The purpose of the note was whether this is a growning problem on certain applications such as a flush floor system or not.

Will see how the installation goes in a couple of weeks once the parts are in.

Regards

Ron LaRue

Lash -- I didn`t know Monaco used the cable system on any slide other than the smaller bedroom slide -- This is the lightest slide on my MH & would be really concerned if was on the heavier, drop down slide -- You really need to buy a replacement cable kit -- The cable in the kit is long enough to replace any cable- The kit also has a sleeve that works like a finger pull, so you can cut a frayed cable, slip the sleeve over the old & new cable ends, & pull the new cable thru the pulley system -- I used small cable clamps to attach the cable to the motor assembly -- Even if you don`t do the repair youself, at least you`ll have the nessary parts & not have to wait -- Bill Willard

Bill:

Will take your advice and purchase a backup cable as this most likely will not be the last time I experience this problem.

Right now the unit is under warranty so not an issue. However mid next year I am on my own and may experience a failure at a later date.

With respect to the application, agree that the wardrobe slide works just fine. However, the dropped floor concept concerns me with a cable system. Based on two other owners of the same coach as mine, one has a cable system and one has a hydralic system. Not sure which is the latest design and am trying to get info on that.

Will keep the forum posted on the success of the repairs on my unit. However, I must say, as a previous Allegro owner, I am much happier as a Monaco owner as the quality of construction and consistency exceeds what I encountered with Allegro. Just my personal experiences.

Regards

Hey Lash,
Enjoyed our phone conversation the other night. I dropped off my coach to get the slideout cable replaced again today. The guys at the shop said that they are seeing a lot more coaches with cable slideouts coming into the shop for other kinds of repairs. A few of them have needed cable replacements. Apparently other manufacturers are using this type of slideout. It does keep the basement storage from having to be cut up allows for more pass through bins.

Gramps:

Mutual on enjoying phone conversation. Did the slide seal today with the marine MDC material from Lowes. Nice stuff.

Imagine some of the issues are a result of system being used more. Will advise when my cables are replaced and the findings for the same.

Regards

My 08 Cayman has this issue. The fraying problem is stopping my slide from going out all the way. It's in service now. Service told me that sometimes the holes where the cable pass through are not big enough so the cable rubs.
