On our 08 Monaco, After our last trip out, I found a small tear on the slide cover right where the cover is attatched to the MH.
Is it possible to tape the tear, which is about 3" long, or am I looking at a replacement?
If it can be taped, what type of tape should be used??
Thanks.

Take the "awning" off, a pretty easy job if TWO people. The material is thin enough that a "home" sewing machine can sew a thin piece of nylon strapping as a patch. Don't worry what it looks like as the reinstall will include turning the awning around with the patch nearest the outside and not the MH. As I recall the awning is at least a foot longer than needed so the patch will never be unrolled or seen!
The hardest part of the job was switching the 2 nylon "staves" from their respective sides of the awning. (2 different diameters). We "greased" them with silicone.

I had a small tear about 2" long on the Main Slide cover and had success using 3M Clear Packing Tape. I cleaned both sides of the cover with alcohol and applied the tape. The repair was made a year ago and the fix is still holding. The 3M tape appears to have done the trick

We had the same thing happen to two of our slide toppers over a year ago. We used CW awning tape. Cleaned both sides of the topper near the tear and used a short piece of tape on each side. Holding fine so far.

Recently I saw where someone had success by doing as above but, after applying the tape to the underside, they applied something called "liquid stitch" to the tear, then applied the tape to the top.

Good luck,

rick

Nice to know that some repairs are possible and have held. The topper on our large slide (2007 Scepter) started coming apart where it attaches to the coach. Stitching let go, no material damaged. I contacted Care Free and got no help. I contected four repair facilities in the area, and no one was interested in removing the awning and having it re-stitched. All said the cost would be the same as replacing it. Awining is too large for me to handle alone, so it's in the shop now for an awning replacement.

The Carefree Awnings have experienced, in the past, a failure at the sewn seam at the point where the awning attaches to the MOHO. Many have removed the awning and taken it to an upholstry shop, removed a few inches (unroll and verify that your awning has a few inches to spare first) of the awning and had the stave resewn into the end of the material and reinstalled the cloth onto the MOHO

Thanks for the replies.
After posting, I remembered the shop had taped a small tear on the front of the topper and its holding.
Ill get busy and see if taping the tear it now has will hold until I can get it replaced.
Thanks again for the ideas.

Donie... We also thought we had a "tear" in our slide topper. It turns out the seam stitch had rotted and let lose. We removed the topper and re-stitched the seam with a weather resistant thread.

When we bought our 02 Georgetown, the seller pointed out some "minor damage" at the front of the living room slide topper. From the ground it didn't look like a big deal.

After we'd got it home, parked it on the driveway and put the jacks down and slides out, we had a couple of days of breezy weather. When it calmed down, my wife commented on "all these little bits of white plastic in the yard". Since it had been trash pickup time that morning, I originally dismissed the debris as having blown out when someone's recycle bin was emptied.

A couple of days later, I went round the driver's side of the rig (stepping into next door's front yard). I was surprised to see quite a large area of the topper reduced to just plastic netting. The "little bits of plastic" turned out to be pieces of the vinyl skin of the topper.

The seller had the rig parked in his yard for over a year with the slides extended and the LR was facing south. Solar radiation did the damage. I did a temporary fix with about a half roll of white duct tape and it has held up for 2 months and three trips so far, In the off-season new toppers for both slides are on the "punch" list, with the most UV-resistant fabric I can afford (Sunbrella, maybe?).

When the stitching on our LR slide let go near the Motorhome I took it to a local dealer and was given a price of $460.00 to remove it and put it back on but I would have to handle having it re-stitched. Here in Florida we have several mobile units that will come to your location and work on your rig. I found one of these guys that said if I would give him a hand he would remove both awnings and reinstall them with me helping for $75.00. I would have to handle the re-stitching. I had the re-sewing done at a local upholstery shop that was recommended by others that used them before and they charged me $60.00 to re-stitch all the seams on both awnings. Job came out great and now I also know how to remove them. So a $520.00 job for one awning turned into $135.00 for both awnings. It also gave me the time to clean and seal the fabric before they went back on.

Really like it when things turn out this way.

Bob

As an update, when we got home, I opened the slider and took a close look at the cover.
It appears that the tear is right at the original seam and the cover is not in the best of condition.
I feel whoever had it left the slider out and that contributed to the current condition of the slider cver.
Im going to check the warrenty and hopefully, it will cover the replacement.

donie....I took all three of mine off one morning, cut off six inches and had a local upholstery shop stich them for a total of $80.00 and a $20.00 tip. Had them back on in a couple of hours.

If you search, you can see a post where I detailed how to easily take them off. One person can do it.

Also, West Marine has a fabric patch that is used on torn sails and Lowes has a fabric repair glue which I have used successfully to repair boat canvas with (depending on the tear you may want to glue a patch to the fabric). This is good stuff to keep on board. You never know when you might need it. Good luck.

I have this same issue. I looked back over your posts for the past two months and did not find it. Can you provide a link, or a topic title.

Thanks in advance.
