I have a 2005 Lapalma, 38 ft. with three slides. We just meet a couple in Canada that has a 2004 with two slides. Both of us has had to get the covers over the slides resewed there the fabic is held to the coach. By this I mean the plastic insert stiches had come undone. Anyone else have this problem, both units have Carefree covers.

I have a 2007 SCepter with the same problem. I have at least one cover where the stitching is coming out. Carefree was no help, just said it was repairable and I should take it off and have it restitched.

We replaced the Carefree covers on our 04 Imperial last year. Not only did it pull away from the coach but the edges were un raveling. The awning guy told us that it was a problem with Carefree slide covers in general.
The guy that own the lot across from us had a 06 (I think) 4 slide Scepter with the same problem and had to replace them before a prospective new owner would buy.

I just replaced all 4-topper awnings on my 07 Knight. The problem with the thread is Carefree did not lock stitch the seam correctly or did not use a good polyester thread to hold up to the weather these awnings are subjected too. I replaced mine with a material called Sunbrella which I have used for boat covers for 30+ years. I rolled each of the edge seams and double stitched the ends where the poly cord is located.

The slide toppers on my newly acquired 02 Georgetown 325 are't specxtacular. The the living room slide is in very poor shape. The previous owner hadn't used the RVfor about 18 months and it had sat with the slides out. The LR slide faced south!
I've done a termporary repair with white duct tape which looks a lot more civilized that my previous attempt with some camouflage tape my son left behind!
A major concern is that the living room topper seems to be rolling up in a spiral movement rather than as a cylinder. There is about 6" of attachment at one end that has failed, so maybe that's causing the assymetry.
I plan to use the outfit in Texas to get a new cover for the living room and maybe sometime later, one for the bedroom slide. That one is not too bad - may last the rest of the season. There's just a bit of separation of outer vinyl from the netting substrate at one end and it's rolling up pretty square.

I have read many post from people using this outfit, they appear to be very happy and the price look good. A&E has the same problems listed in tjis thread.

Thanks for your responds, it apears that the thread is the problem. Mine started from the center and worked its way to the edges. Dont know if I would go without the covers, they shed alot of rain and keep alot of leaves and branches from landing on the slide. Dont trust the seals on the slides that much.

I have had problems with my Carefree toppers being to long and loose and called them 6 months after we purchased our Diplomat (new) and they were not willing to help they told me that they were to there specs in a very short blunt conversation. I will never purchase any Carefree product ever again.

Two months ago I removed all three of my slide toppers, cut off six inches, folded over about two inches, ran an iron down the new fold and then took them to an upholstery shop where the stitched all three for $100.00.
They are very easy to remove. If you look at this post Carefree Slide Topper Repair/Replace it explains how to do it. The large slide is especially easy.

Hardy1000. When I removed my topper awning the material was 54 inches in length from the side of the coach to the rolled up end of the awning whether it was a 30-inch slide or an 18-inch slide. That’s ridiculous. The remaining material will never see the light of day. It just sits their wet and accumulates mildew and stains. When I made mine, I made mine 8 inches longer than I needed.
