Slide motor
2007 Diplomat 40 PDQ
Big slide on drivers side with couch and Samsung fridge is getting very slow and hard to close. Today it took two of us "helping" it by pushing.
Has anyone found an interchangeble motor that has more power. I am tired of holding my breath every time I try to move this monster in.
I have seen larger wiper motors than this little thing.

Are you sure its just the motor? I'm not familiar with the mechanism in your slide, but maybe there is something mechanical needs lubricating or is binding?

I had a similar issue on my 2008 a couple of years ago, it was getting so bad, I even broke teeth off the gear pack. It turned out the the rollers on the inner end of the slide rams are a plastic honeycomb type material, and mine had flattend causing a lot of extra drag when trying to retract the slide, it got to a point that I was afrsid to put the slide in or out. We ended up repllacing the plastic roller with 3 tinken roller bearings, the slide has never worked as good as it does now.

One thing you can do is pull fuse F22 in your front run bay so you can operate your slides with the engine running. That will give you 13.8v vs 12 which may help. You can also lube up the bottom of the slide with silicone.
On my coach, I used a fuse tap in this position wired with a switch so I can toggle between having the slides operate with the engine running and not.

Dennis,
That's a great idea. Did you jack up your slide to give clearance for removing the slide rams? That is what I understand the guys at Elite do when they replace the roller with a steel roller. I want to replace the rollers on mine too but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I recently saw a nice roller setup on a 2015 Winnebago Tour with a similar flush floor slide arrangement. It had rollers attached to the leading edge of the floor where it rides up over the HDPE ramp. Something like that could also make our slides operate more freely. I have also thought about remaking the ramps on my coach to incorporate rollers at the apex. I think that would also take some of the friction out of the system.

I had mine done by Jeff at Executive Motorcoach Repair in Pahrump, NV, he worked for Monaco doing all their slide repairs, he worked with the guys at Elite, so they all know the same tricks. To repair mine, he did have to jack up the slide outer edge some, he also took off the lower trim piece of the slideout. He also had to loosen the slide ram tube to drop them down in order to get the rams out. The whole jub was accomplished in 1 long day. He did all the work while we were parked a Terrible Casino RV park, which he got for us for free for 2 nights. We are very pleased with his work, he also does beautiful mods to the RV including replacing floors and custom cabinets. If you are anywhere near the southern parts of Arizona, California or Nevada, he would be my goto guy.

Thanks!
I'm still thinking of doing it myself but if I don't, I will check it out.

I have an 05 Knight that had a slide that needed help often. A few times we had to help it by either pushing it so it would go out and sometimes pushing it so it would go in.
NOW, I lube it nearly every time it's out and have not had any problems since. I love simple fixes! (I just jinxed myself I'm sure)
Good luck!

That's a new one to me Roy. Never heard that before.
It's that all fuse F22 is doing - i.e. preventing the operation of the slide when the engine is running, or does it do something else as well?

Yes. On my coach, this fuse controls a relay that disconnects power to the slide motor when the engine is running.. The switch I put in disconnects power to the fuse. This was Bill Willard's fix. In retrospect, I am not sure the switch is necessary. My Winnebago DP was wired with the slide hot at all times.

I think I will have to call a "board meeting" about this in Phoenix in January.

Yes, and that should be on the agenda. There might also be some other interesting "walk on" topics to discuss as well.
