Slide-out motor brake failure 2006 Diplomat

Greetings fellow iRV2rs,

Maybe someone else has run across this...

Had an interesting issue pop up the other day when setting up at an RV park. The left front slide-out in our 2006 Diplomat 40PDQ wouldn't extend at the proper speed. It was just creeping out very very slowly. It retracted quickly after it was extended several inches. I subsequently watched and listened to the motor while DW tried to extend and heard a squealing/grinding noise.

The gearbox/motor assembly is easy to remove and I found that there was 13 volts being supplied on extension and retraction. I also checked that the slide-out was moving freely and not bound up or snagged anywhere.

I have noticed that the slide-out has been moving more slowly than normal lately but couldn't find the source of the problem.

I ordered a new motor assembly through Amazon, installed it, and everything is fine now.

So I took the old unit apart. It consists of a gearbox, motor, and brake on the end of the motor (see image). As it turns out, there was a loose bullet connector (behind piece of elect. tape at right side of image) on one of the wires going from the motor to the brake. After fixing that problem, the assembly worked fine. However, I didn't reuse it because of damage to the brake disk.

Your slide motor may be the same. Ours was made by Lippert and I would check with them:
Lippert Components
2703 College Ave
Goshen, IN 46528
866-524-7821 or 574-312-6850
tech support 574-537-8900
http://www.lci1.com/

I learned after replacing the motor with an original OEM motor that there is a more powerful motor available. I would check with Lippert.
