Slide problem

My kitchen slide (05 Knight) has started having a problem. It opens and closes without a problem but after it is opened, the base retracts a few inches after the power is removed from the motor. This leaves a small gap at the base of the slide. When closing it does not retract but stays firmly closed.

My question: Is this a problem with the motor (Power Gear 522176) or does the slide need adjusting? Does the motor have a lock or is the slide held in place only by the resistance of the motor.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

The brake on the motor may be disengaged. If you look at the motor there is a black plastic boot on one end, there is also a small lever that engages/disengages the brake so the slide can be retracted if the power or controls fail.

If that is a rack and gear driven slide motor, many of them had a lever on the end of the motor, which was a lock and unlock. When locked, the motor would hold the slide tight in the outward position your talking about, if unlocked, it may let it coast back in a little. We had a similar situation on an Ambassador, only with the slide going in. Hope this may help. Happy trails Bert

Thanks for the information. Yes it was the brake release. The lever was in the up (engaged) position. Cycled it a couple of times and returned it to the "up" position and the brake engaged.

Don't you love it when there is a simple fix!!!!
