Slide Toppers

Something has been bothering me since I have owned this coach. The topper that is on the passenger side rear seems to be angled the wrong direction, which means the topper is always exposed. I am curious if the brackets are wrong. I have attached photos, so hopefully someone can help put my mind at ease. The last photo is one of the bracket for the front passenger topper.Click image for larger version

I suggest you contact Chris Throgmartin at www.talinrv.com. He’s the expert with slide toppers. I know he’s currently on his way to the Ramblin Pushers Maintenance Sessions in Goshen, but should reach out to you.

Looks like you may need new mounting brackets as I doubt you’ll be able to straighten the two bent ones. With two people on the roof and the slide out a little, I’d try pulling it back upright... you have nothing to loose even if the mounts break.

I would find and install a nail into the hole that keeps it from rolling up so if you have to remove everything it will be easier to slide the fabric out of the track.

If you do remove it, go ahead and cut the used fabric off and resew all the hems as the thread usually fails at 10 years. With the 4 slides out I think you will see you have areas where the thread is gone. There is enough unused fabric on 3 of your 4 slides to cut off the used and most of it on the large LR slide. With black thread you should be good for 15+ years.

I agree. My impression is that the mounting brackets are bent. I would not try to straighten them, as that much bending likely would weaken the bracket.

Also, the bracket on your third picture appears to be missing the black plastic cover over the bracket mounting screws.

Carefree of Colorado will sell you both brackets and bracket covers. Call them with the serial numbers of your toppers and they will know what part numbers apply. You should find the serial numbers on the inside of the topper housings, at one end or the other. On our coach, it requires a trip to the roof to see them. I took pictures of the labels to record that info.

Ingrid and Chris Throgmartin at Stone Vos/Talin RV are great folks, and know a lot about awnings and toppers.

Strangely enough, the brackets aren't bent. It appears that somewhere along the way, the wrong brackets were installed. I will try to touch base with Chris Throgmarten to get his input.

Looks to me like the whole topper needs to be removed and rotated 180 degrees so that what is pointing up to the sky will be pointing down.
