My 2002 Monaco Exec living room slide switch has just started to give a problem when closing. It is a rocker style switch that must be depressed and held while the slideout opens or closes. It worked the last time after I tapped the switch sharply when it failed to energise. Has anyone had to repair/replace their switch? I am sure I am going to have to do one or the other in the very near future.

Failure of the rocker switch is a low probability ....but it could happen. The rocker switch only activates the high-current relays that send juice to the slide motor. These fail at a much higher rate of probability. Go looking for them. Re-seat them in their sockets. Hopefully you'll just find a poor connection.

You can prove if the rocker switch is OK or not. Just short around it with a jumper. If the jumper doesn't cause the slide to work (in or out), you'll need to begin troubleshooting the relay packs.

If you have the brown flat plastic rockers....yes thy do go bad. CHEAP!! I have replaced those on several coaches with Carling switches like all our dash switches. The hole needs to be enlarged a bit in most cases, but worth the effort. Make a diagram of wiring, and pull out any slack, if they left you some, and use heavy clips to kep the wires from falling back into the wall. That would make for a very long day!!

Thanks for the relay comments Robi.1014 and Twomed, I will take special care if I disconnect the wires as you have cautioned. These problems never seem to just go away, and I want to be prepared if the switch fails completely. Right now I can not replicate the problem as it only happens occasionaly.

I have had two of those switches fail on me. Scared me to death the first time because I was in a RV and wanted to leave. Kept on pushing the switch and it finally made contact and the slide came in.
