I wonder if we could receive some help. I have a new 2011 Monaco Monarch. Last night we extended the single slide that takes up the entire side of the coach. When we attempted to retract the slide it seemed to try and move sharply "up" on an angle toward the ceiling. When I sent the slide back out again, there was actually some bruising to the wood where the front edge of the slide in the bedroom went up into the wood. I went outside and pushed up on the bottom of the slide while my wife pushed the switch and the slide came in smoothly. Any idea what's happening?
I did notice when slide was out that the coach seemed to be tipped to the left more than normal. The ground outside was level. It was in a parking lot. Any help will be appreciated. I notice we have the ford chasis with our 33SFS While the 2011 Monarch brochure only lists Workhorse chasis coming with the 33SFS. Is our chasis not strong enough for the coach?
Again, comments please.

My living room slide tips up towards the ceiling when it first starts coming in... but it never touches.

Are you saying the molding on the top of the slide actually touches the ceiling? You can see it touch?

My living room slide also tips up when I bring it in but it does not touch the ceiling.

When I was looking at a knight a couple weeks ago, the slide wanted to do the same thing, they'd left it out in a snowstorm and the slide topper was fouled with ice and wouldn't retract.

I have a new Diplomat with a full wall slide. Worked well till the last time we were out. Slide went up as it came in an appeared to be going very close to the ceiling. I stopped it and it straighted up and came in normally. I since have read that these slides can do this if the coach is low on the slide side as the weight of the slide keeps it from straightening out as it is retracted. I thought I was pretty level when I brought it in, but who knows. I will test it at home before I go out next time. Anyway, try letting the slide stop when it approaches the ceiling and see if will straighten out.

I had the same issue with my dynasty living room slide. I finally realized I forgot to refill air bags before retracting the slides, not sure if your rig works this way but just a thought.

I have an '08 Diplomat SFT (full wall slide) and have the same thing that happens to you. Once, my younger daughter was bringing the slide in, didn't notice the tilt, and crushed the hallway light.

I find that it happens less if you are fully aired up. Also, if you bring the slide in in increments, it will "settle" into position and not tilt up too much.

I have the same model as yours and had the same issue, the slide tipped up and scraped the guide on the ceiling near the bathroom. I don't know if this is a design defect or another issue but I now watch the floor of the slide and stop if it starts to raise up, I also move the slide in small increments.
Good luck and have fun in your new MH.

For coaches with air bags, you need to make sure you are fully aired up to let slides in or out. This is for Monoco brands.

Thanks for all the responses. Makes me feel better- not alone. Yes ours actually hit the ceiling but now we will do it in small increments. Monarchs do not have air bags so that won't help us.
Thanks again.

Steve,

I have the same 07 Dip SFT floorplan as Bud, and this has happened to me as well. I've experienced two reasons which can cause this to happen.... The first, and most likely, is that the coach is sitting with the left side lower than the right. If you must set up in a site like this, it is one time when you DO NOT want to follow Monaco's advice about filling the air bags and retracting the levelers before bringing in that slide. In this case you want to pull in that large slide while the coach is still up on the levelers.

Here's the reason... That big slide is extemely heavy. When the coach is tilting to the left, gravity holds the outside of the slide down while it is coming in, which raises the inside of the slide. Thus it hits your ceiling. When the coach is level, the inside of the slide will "pivot" downward as it comes in, thus clearing the ceiling by a fraction of an inch, which is normal.

The other thing that can cause this problem is that there is a "teflon-like" plastic runner attached to the floor of the coach that the bottom of the slide slides against as it goes in and out. Sometimes this runner can seperate from the floor and buckle a bit. If this happens it will raise the slide up too high as you move it. If this strip comes loose from the floor, it needs to be re-attached by a dealer or possibly replaced. This second "cause" applies to the 2007 SFT floor plan, but I assume that maybe it could also apply to yours. Thankfully, the condition is rare.

Went down to the coach yesterday and checked the operation of the full wall slide. Coach was fairly level and the slide barely missed the ceiling while retracting. Figured if I put out the curb side front slide it would tend to lift the road side of the coach. Tried this and it helped alot. Had acceptable ceiling to slide clearance ,well over an inch. I think this may be a good way to help the clearance problem.
If the road side is low before leveling I would advise pulling in the slide while the coach is level and before dropping the jacks even if it's not Monaco's recommended procedure.

Seems to me that the rig should go to the dealer to be fixed under warranty.
