When I fill my fresh water tank, it can take as long as 30 minutes before it comes out the overflow.

This seems a little long.

What times do you see?

Paul

Wow . . . that is a long time. We never fill ours 100%, but DH turns the fill on outside, and I stand inside watching the monitor. Even if the fresh water is down to 15%, it only takes about 5 minutes for it to get up to 80% which is where we generally turn it off. Unless we're planning on dry camping, though, we generally just carry around 30% or so . . . less water to haul theoretically means better mileage, although once you get to the bigger diesels I guess talking about mileage is silly!

My guess would be debris is in the line (not your potable water hose). Perhaps you have a check-valve in that line somewhere....and by design, it presents a rather small (narrow) passage for water...and thus any debris there would kill the flow rate. As for troubleshooting this, you may need to get inventive.

Well you are probably filling it through the inline water regulator. There are sevearl differenet ones made. One type does not flow much and then there are ones that maintain just 45 psi. I have a High Flow type that maintains 50 psi which makes a lot of difference. I use a Valterra A01-1113VP High Flow water Regulator. Makes a big difference. The other thing I found was that my fresh water hose is on a reel. If I do not unwind it all the way then there is a kink where the hose is attached to the reel. So I always unwind it all the way to get max flow. The other thing to check is those liitle screens that are on the input to the hose and water regulators. They get blocked from debris. You can buy replacements at Home Depot or Lowes. You are also dependent on the flow from the campground faucet and some of those can be pretty bad. All those above improvemets also increase the flow in the shower and make it tons better.

Try using your gravity fill with just a hose hooked up to the faucet. No water pressure regulator involved and you should see a quick fill.

Mike,

I'll have to take a look at the regulator. It seems to start off faster than it ends up. I need to take the access panels off as the incoming fitting leaks some where it shouldn't.

Barlow,

I am not sure what you mean by the gravity method. Can you educate me?

Our coach also takes about 30 minutes to fill the empty water tank.

Paul,
Most tanks have an external capped water fill access, usually behind a small lockable door similar to a fuel tank fill on a car. It is frequently use to sanitize the water tank since all you have to do is make up your chlorine/water mix and pour it directly into the tank. Then you can just stick the hose into the filler and fill up the tank. Most all travel trailers and fifth wheels have this setup. I guess not all motorhomes/coaches have this fill location but I think most do.

My 96 Dynasty takes about that for 100 gallons...but Im on a well with 45-60psi max pressure. Mine looks to have a 1/4" inlet from the fill valve to the tank....All factory installed.....Can't push water through the 1/4" very quickly

Mine does not have a gravity fill as Barlow described, just 1 connector....with the valve closed, you have city water...with it open it fills the tank

I have not seen a gravity fill either, but I will take a closer look on this new to me MH this weekend.
