Smart Wheel not lit
I have a 2000 Dynasty. Are the control buttons on my smart wheel supposed to be lit up at night with headlights?
Mine aren't. Is it bulbs? Any ideas or thoughts on what/where/how to check?

They did not install LED lights on this earlier model. I have had to train my fingers to search out the right buttons on the smartwheel to push.

Feb 2001 is the start date for Smart Wheels with internal backlighting. Wheels before that date were 2 wire systems using slip rings and after that date were 4 wire systems with a clock spring.

So much for "Smart Wheel". Year 2000 must be the "Dumb Wheel" or "Blind Wheel" LOL.
A least that answers my question! Thanks.
For once I didn't take something apart and ask the question after!
Nice knowing I'm smarter than my wheel LOL!

Steve or anyone else,
I am trying to install a clockspring on my VIP Steering Wheel but I cannot find the part number for the clockspring plate that fastens the clockspring to the steering column. I can find the VIP Steering Wheel, the VIP controller, and the clockspring but Freightliner does not have a part number or reference to the clockspring plate. Does anyone know how I can locate the plate that fastens to a TRW Steering column??

The Smart Wheet was part of the Freightliner chassis package, so I would call them with your chassis number and they should be able to give you what you need.
