Speedometer/ odometer question

I have a 2001 Dynasty With the typical entertainment system gauges that rarely read correctly. Even though I have run a designated ground from the speedo to the steering column, it still reads high and fluctuates almost all the time. Are the speedo and the mileage odometer connected together? If they are, it will throw off my miles traveled. This then will affect my service intervals. Also, been thinking about a new gauge system, like the SilverLeaf. Any idea what that would cost for the 2001 dynasty? Can it be incorporated into the back up camera location and have the camera as part of the system? Are there any other options for accurate reading gauges? Currently I use an app on my phone to determine how fast I’m going, but can’t monitor anything else with it.
Thanks

Good afternoon Ken; Yes, the factory dash gauges can be a source of entertainment when they will not work properly. On my Previous 2000 Windsor the spedo would bounce all over the place after the coach sat for at least a month or more in the wet Pacific Northwest weather. After driving for about an hour and everything warmed up and the spedo would operate normal. This did not happen on a trip down in the humid southeastern states. Had all sorts of electrical problems, so not sure if what you are experiencing is a ground problem or an electrical connection problem. My 2001 Windsor has had no problems with the speco like my 2000 did. Parked in the same place and the same N.W. weather. I have an older Silver Leaf system that the original owner purchased somewhere in 2001. Shows lots of info off the engine ECM, but mine does not show speed. I would go to Silver Leaf's web site as they might show newer technology from what I have from 01. Also do not know anything that is incorporated into the rear camera. As for cost on the newest Silver Leaf, that info might be on their web site. I love my older Silver Leaf and wonder how I survived without it on my older Windsor. Just lucky that my spedo and odometer seem to be operating properly. I believe the spedo and the odometer get their info from the same place. Can't remember at the moment where that is. Hope some of this info is helpful and you can get the spodo and odometer operating properly soon. Good luck!

I always check the odometer against mile markers when I get a new vehicle. I know that mile markers aren't always spot on, but over a longer distance they should be pretty accurate. I check them as far as I can on an interstate. I try for 100 miles, but even 10 or 20 miles will give you an idea.

You can by a ScanD gage that will give up to 24 different gages. only four at one time. Speed if one but not the odometer. It reads from the coach's CPU Engine & Trans. I love mine.

Silverleaf makes a module (VMS333)that overlays onto the backup camera but it’s $1000. They have cheaper units that use a laptop for the display. Here’s my installation: Installing a Silverleaf VMS333 in 08 Navigator

I loosened my speedo connections. Sprayed with Deoxit contact ckeaner and tightened them back. Fixed the 10% over speed on the speedometer. I have the silver leaf dongle and a cheap lap top mounted on the dash.

Speedometer/ odometer question

Odometer I got rid of the ERR1 and managed to set the mileage (not exactly sure how) but now it says I have over 800k miles;(. Should be about 120k. The deoxit did fix the 10% high on my speedo. I Did the same thing to my tach (which reads low) to no avail. I use Deoxit to clean inop switches too. Good stuff
I continue to play with the odometer setting and will report back if I figure it out. Looks like a bear to try to take it out.
