Stair problem

My 2006 Monaco Monarch SE 37' has a recurring problem with stairs not shutting off when retracted. They bounce for 15 to 20 seconds before finally stopping. Motor has been changed twice plus module and still it continues. Works fine for a brief time and then returns to the same situation. Anyone else had this problem? Any idea what might be causing it? Thank goodness for ExtraRide warranty. Going back for 3rd service appt. soon. Perhaps a new rv repair centre is in order

I agree with your last sentence

Sounds like it's either a limit switch issue or a sensor issue...

good luck with it...

If the motor has been changed then it might actually be the primary gear that is wore out. You could take the main gear out and rotate it 180 degree so the it has a fresh set of teeth for the motor to mate to.

We had that exact same problem last year. It happened shortly before the "shoulder bolt" that holds the gear that the motor drives to extend / retract the steps sheared off. If your steps haven't been serviced as part of the LCI stair recall ... the shoulder bolt may be about to go on yours as well. I would suggest you examine the bolt (note that we ultimately had to take the entire stair assembly off the coach - where we discovered that the shoulder bolt actually had a tiny spot weld on the top of it to prevent it from turning. We had to grind off the spot weld to remote the threaded portion of the bolt that was still attached after the rest of the bolt had sheared off.)

No limit switch. The control box senses an overcurrent condition when the motor stalls after hitting something and shuts it off. That's so it won't keep trying to open, for instance, when you park too close to the curb and the step hits the curb and stops.

More likely an issue with the gears (usually one is plastic and its mate is metal. why'd they do that???), an intermittent electrical connection when drawing high current or check the recall situation.

I agree time for another repair centre, if you don't want to tackle it yourself.
