Stairwell Cover

2004 HR Endeavor... The automatic stairwell cover decided not to work. When you push the button you hear the motor try to work. Checked fuse, it is okay. The entire step cover is enclosed. Can't get to it from under the coach. Seems to be jambed. I have dug through all the manuals and find nothing except to tell you to push the button for it to work.
Any ideas?

Most of them are air operated and you need air in the tanks to work them. Pushing the button operates a solenoid valve that allows air to push the step closed or releases the air to allow it to open. There is a air pressre regulator that is tied in with this solenoid valve. Are you air tanks full?

I have tried it both ways. Even tried as we drove down the road. It might be air controlled and what I hear is the valve.

The solenoid valve will make a thunk sound when it opens or closes. I believe the valve is square and is located on the front right firewall in the generator compartment. There are two small screw adjustments on this solenoid which I recommend NOT turning because it did work correctly at one time. Either there is no air getting to the solenoid, or the stairwell cover is stuck, or the air ram cylinder that operates the cover is stuck. Can you hook anything onto the cover and pull it to see if it will move?

WeBeGone2......The thread that itdave posted has some good info. That's my ugly mug in the photos. If you can't get it out, the carpeted cover piece that is still visible (when the cover is in) is held on by three screws under the carpet. You can see them in the photo. You can feel for those screws and remove them, giving access to the gear drive.

It sounds like the gear drive on yours is jammed.
