Steel skid wheels...

Hi there, was wondering if any of you have steel slid wheels mounted to your hitches.

Dragged the tail pulling into our driveway and don't want to do it again.

Was think of going the single steel welded wheel route but before I commit I wanted to get some opinions.

Thanks in advance!!

Can you stop in front of your driveway and manually raise the ride height to maneuver the driveway?

Whatever you add under the hitch will reduce the ground clearance and hit more often.

My MH has skid shoes on each side of the hitch, under the chassis rails. One or the other often scrape but the center of the hitch doesn't take the stress from ground hits.

Steel rollers on each side may work better but that's what it came with.

Our first motorhome had Kwikee skid wheels mounted on the frame rails just forward of the hitch. They were 4" or 6" but not metal. I used them several times and was glad they were there. They only extended an inch or so below the low hanging body parts.

Unfortunately the Driveway is actually a private road off the Main Street where traffic is moving at 50-60mph... stopping for any reason is not a good idea.. bad enough you have to slow just to enter with a regular car.

Thanks for the response!

The hitch is the factory hitch that's double stacked 2" square tubing. The lower is the one that hits... I was thinking of welding on a skid wheel to the upper square which would only cause the wheel to protrude 1/2" below the contact point .

The way my hitch is configured don't see a good way to mount two wheels on either side. The hitch basically forms a "Y" shape from the receiver end forward.

Thanks for the response!

That's a possibility... I need to investigate that a bit further. I be concerned loading the tail ends of the frame. Any lateral load may potentially twist the frame tails.

Thanks for responding!
