I realize this is a monaco forum but since my safari is owned by them I thought maybe I could start here for help.I need help with my steering. I own a 1991 Safari Ivory edition on the old oshgosh frame. I'm experiencing very sloppy steering and would like any information as to what I could do or where I should start for a fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it sloppy on a level road, no wind, and no passing traffic?

Obvious things to check initially are tire pressure/age, high mileage wear of suspension components, shocks, steering stabilizer, overloaded or load distribution, etc.

I really don't know anything about your chassis, especially if it is inherently stable or subject to less than ideal conditions.

I don't know what you mean by sloppy, but I have a 99 Safari Continental and it had play in the steering wheel. I found the pitman arm loose, tightened it no more wander. Hope this helps...

munchie.....I'm guessing you have a tired front end. I believe you have a Bell Crank on that chassis which will wear out and get loose along with the pitman arm.

If you're a DIY type of owner, jack up one front wheel and have one or two people grab the tire at 9:00 and 3:00 and wiggle it. It may show where you have some loose steering components.

If you can do that, you'll at least be able to intelligently deal with a repair shop and describe what's wrong.
