Our air operated step cover sometimes didn't work. Today was the day to check it out, adjust, clean & lube cyl. and mac valve. I started to remove it from the firewall to work on it and found it was pretty hot, obviously entergized in the open position (steps exposed). I'm sure thats why it didn't work sometimes. So, I cleaned etc. and reversed the hoses to the cylinder so it it is not entergized while parked in the open position (steps exposed). One less thing drawing power while parked also. I don't care which way you flip the switch to open it.

Rick

Hummmnnn Well not real sure you got it fixed. Reversing the hoses (air lines) will not keep the valve from being energized. If it is hot to the touch, that may indicate power is being applied as you suggested.

Sounds like you either had a bad switch which kept power applied, or a short or some sort. Short would have to be on the negative side going to the valve as positive side is not switched.

So did you reverse the hoses (air lines), the power connections, or both?

Did cleaning the mac valve cure the operational problem and does it now work with the switch? Hope so.

Rex,
The reason the solenoid was hot was because one of the switches had to be on while parked to keep the cover open (steps exposed) . By reversing the air lines only, now the switch is off to have the cover open. The cover works all the time now after the hose swap and lubing it and it doesn't get hot while open now. The other thing is now if the soleniod fails or loses power the cover will remain open and you can get out of the motorhome.

Thanks Rick. Sounds like it was connected wrong to begin with at the factory. Thanks for the explanation.
