I've been getting a lot of projects done lately, including this. I never liked the yellow light under the entry step. It was kind of useless. I read elsewhere that an RVer found a nice pair of 12 volt strip lights at Walmart for his steps. I checked the automotive section and they had a pair of LED strip lights (two strips 12" long with 3M backing tape) for $17.00. They came in white and blue. I bought the white. The first photo is how much light they put out.

This second photo is where I mounted them. I cleaned under the step and taped them on. They're directional and shine outward. I drilled a hole in the bottom lip where the wire on both lights were attached. I ran the wire through the holes, connected them together and then soldered them to the wire that powered the yellow light. I left the yellow light disconnected.

WOW... how nice. I'm impressed.

I have a 2000 Dynasty. I hadn't noticed a light down there. It may be burned out. But I'll replace it with your upgrade if I do have one.

I cleaned the surface with laquer thinner and then siliconed the hole where the wiring went through the lip of the step (at the end of the strip). I think it'll be good for awhile.

I'm hoping it was me, I did this same thing on my rig but used red white and blue for the steps to stay in the patriotic theme, yours looks good! I'll take some pictures of mine and post when it quits snowing

Hmm, my yellow step light only comes on for a short time when the step is extended. It should have also been connected to the porch light. I think I'll do the same, but wire it to the porch light.

Great idea!

I did close to the same thing, but I like Dip Don's light better. Any chance for a link, I could not find them on the WalMart site.

I tied mine into the lights inside on the steps. They were simple to tie into as the wiring is right next to the step.

The Great Dane.......I thought about splitting them and putting one strip on the lip of the fiberglass as I did and then the second strip on the bottom of the top step, but there is too much movement to worry about breaking the wire connection.
