Step linkage broke again

This is number three. I have a Stromberg Carlson, Lippert 3 step unit.
Stromberg Carlson SP 165220 Ball Joint for Electric Step | eBay
The linkage has broken in the same place every time. Right next to the ball joint. Seams to me we have a week point in our system. Would be nice to find a better replacement.

Where is it breaking? and have you contacted Stromberg or the seller directly?

I'm amazed steps and linkage don't break more often given the incredible stress ... especially from those of us that no longer weigh the same as when we were in high school

We always wait until the step is completely out and locked before we put our weight on it. That may not solve your problem but in our opinion if weight is placed on the step before it comes to a complete stop and the motor finishes running, unnecessary stress is placed on the motor, worm gear, and step mechanism.

I contracted Stromberg and they no longer make or have any linkage. Looks like Lippert owns the step. The linkage is braking next to the ball threads. I did find one, but before I got it I decided to drill out the inside of the ball where the threaded part goes into. Looks like a slip joint. After drilling it out, I bought a one half inch Grade 8 bolt and locking nut. Slipped it through the ball and connected it into the step. Now if the bolt brakes again I can just replace the bolt. By the way, I found a new linkage for $30 on line.
Here is what the linkage looks like
