There is probably a magnet switch on the step assembly that is either out of whack or has a broken wire....one part of assembly has magnet and the the other half that closes against it has another magnet with a wire. If you lose one or it becomes loose....then the light comes on....an easy thing to fix but be extremely careful (get steps out and turn off chassis battery) so that you don't get hurt...go under and look and adjust...if those steps move while your fingers are in there you are in big trouble so please take any safety precautions when you work on a moving assembly.

Is this magnet by the step lights or is it on the door frame?
I see two white pieces of ceramic with wires attached. They seem to be out of whack. Is that it?
OR is it the round/cylindrical object on the door. So when the door closes it tells the controller to lift up the steps.

Think you have 2 magnetic switches. One is at the door, just below the door latch post, typically. The magnet is on the screen door with the switch being attached at the door jamb. This switch is responsible for extending the steps (if they are not extended) when you open the door.

The "other" magnetic switch (the one that is giving you the dash light) would probably be underneath (hence Stuart's excellent caution above about losing a finger!). I don't have such an indicator on my rig, but yours must be "down there" somewhere.

On my Endeavor, the light is a dummy, there are no magnets but on other models, the magnet are on the steps itself and up near the light underneath..It works just like a window switch on a burglar alarm to turn the light off....As I've said before, be very careful when working down there..one false move and your finger is gone...this is a 20 minute job provided you look at it before and after and more importantly, cut off any electric to it (runs off chassis battery) while you are under there.

The one on the step is different than the one on the door, I think the one on the door is normally closed and the one on the normally open but I could have them backwards, the step is not a white switch.
