A large 5/8" shoulder bolt in the center of my step broke and sent the steps swinging back and forth. "sdennislee" sent me to the Lippert website that has many of the replacement parts for the old SCS/Frigette steps that are probably on many years of the Monaco products.
While I was on the website I saw that the motor, brain, plates, arms and several other parts are still available, including the bronze bushings that are placed in (12) pivot points on the double step system. I ordered the bushings and replaced them the other day. It took a while, but can be done with an allen wrench and 1/2" wrench.
While checking the other components, I saw that there is a large 1" shaft at the top of the step that all of the steps swing on. It has three bronze bushings that are not available on the website. At both ends of the shaft is a plate that slips over the 1" shaft. The plate drops down and supports the steps. The plate is held on by a large allen bolt that goes through the shaft and pinches the plate onto the shaft. The reason I described all of this, is the plate at the rear of the step was loose and causing a lot of my step slop. I tightened the allen bolts at both ends of the shaft which are accesible from in front of the steps.
With the replacement of the bushings and the tightening of the bolts, my steps are just like new.
I know this was long, but thought it my be of value to some with older coaches. The bushings were about $40.00 shipped to the house.
