Suggestion for Replacing Front TV 2006 HR Navigator

Hello RV Friends,

It's time to replace the front swing down original TV in our 06 HR Navigator. We think the previous owner really messed up the entire entertainment system as it has never worked correctly. Has anyone replaced the original Sharp TV and if so what with and was it diffiult?? We haven't found anyone here in North Texas that specializes in replacing RV video/entertainment equipment.

Thanks
Jerry

Hi Jerry, over the years I have replaced many TVs. The brand/kind makes almost no difference when making the switch. My first thought is the new TV must fit in the area and existing mounts. TVs of that era in high end coaches were plasma. Today a good quality LED is a good fit, light weight with a good picture and good price.

Generally speaking, any connections on your old TV will be on your new one. Your new TV may also have more modern connections such as a high definition interface connectors mm (HDMI).

When it comes to installing HD satellite, OTA TV, DVR and other systems into a coach your not remotely familiar with, would be impossible to direct a person with no A/V experience.

That said, if you just want to swap out the front TV, it's just a matter of pulling the cables out of the old TV and plugging them in to the new one.

I am wondering if you have the same TV system as we did. ours drops down from the ceiling and had a box full of electrical gear over passenger seat. WE struggled with it for over a year. WHat we found was the Sharp tv was an analog TV. WE stopped trying to get it to work and installed a new Sony purchased at Best Buy. WE did have to do some modification to get it mounted. PM me if you want more information.

We installed a 50" Vizio in ours. I mount it with the 4 bolts in back of the tv by drilling two holes in the bracket and using two small spacers. It fit perfect in the metal frame with about 1/2 inch on each side and is flush with the frame.

We replaced ours with a 46" Samsung HDTV. We measured the absolute biggest dimensions we could use and went to Costco and kept measuring TVs until we found the biggest highly rated HDTV we could. With just a little adjusting of the mount it bolted right on. Hardest part of the whole deal was getting the cover off the back of the mount, screws and velcro.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I do believe this is an old analog TV. Taking suggestions and going to measure opening and then just go to Costco and find one that will fit. Will replace receiver as well as the one in there is as old as the TV I think!!'

I first installed a 48" Samsung 1080p TV. Then the 50" Samsung 4k TV went on sale at Costco and I couldn't resist. Both are thinner and much lighter than the original Sharp.

The Sharp connected to the AV cabinet with a large 4 bundle of digital RCA plug video cables. I tucked those back out of the way and routed an HDMI cable back to an HDMI switch installed in the top of the AV cabinet. Both my Blu-ray player and satellite receiver connect to the HDMI switch inputs, that way I can easily switch outputs to the TV's. This was all pretty straight forward.

I also installed a 40" Samsung HD TV in the bedroom. The hardest part of all this was routing an HDMI cable to the bedroom TV.
