Smile Surge Protection and EMS

I have OEM a Surge Guard model 40250 50A Plus. It is the transfer switch for my 08 Dynasty. In reviewing this product it seems that it has most of the same features as the Progressive Industries HW50C EMS unit. It seems to have the low /high voltage cutoff capability and the ability identify miswired situations at the pole and surge protection.

I am seeking advice as to the need for the Progressive EMS unit "in front" of the 40250 transfer switch. In addition I have a Powermaster "autoformer" on order which I will place "at the pole" in front of all the other ems units.

Advice?

Thanks.

I'm a firm believer in the Progressive Industries EMS. However, it looks like it would be mostly redundant with what you already have. The biggest difference I see is in low voltage protection (the most important feature, in my mind.) Your Surge Guard drops out at 95 volts, which I think is too low. The Progressive unit drops out at 104, which is borderline in my mind. The Surge Guard unit is 9 volts below that.

Still, I don't know if I would want to spend the hundreds of dollars just to get that 9 volts.
