gto19.....I bought the SurgeGuard hard wired unit without doing any real investigation. I installed it myself in about two hours. I needed a short piece of matching 50 amp cord which I was able to buy at Home Depot. The biggest issue is getting the lugs tight on the wire.

If I were to buy one today, I would buy the Progressive hard wire model. It has more features and a gauge to watch what's going on.

I vote for the Progressive unit as well- more features and more protection. Support is great too, they'll help right away if you have questions/problems. Don't rule out the portable unit either- I have one and had to return the original which made it a lot easier. Also, you may switch to a different coach some day or use it at home or on sometthing else- so a portable is ready to go with you!

I hard wired this 50 amp SurgeGuard that saved me on my fist time out with it. I would have to agree with the above posts I would look at the progressive unit also I see alot of people using them. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...ge-guard/18541
