I'm sure by now you all know that Rick & I finished our stint in the rat race and today, Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 is the first day of the rest of our lives. We are officially retired. Not too difficult for either of us to adapt to, having traveled for 8 years in a 5er - about 17 years ago.

Anyway, today we are finishing packing the MH for a long, long road trip. We're thinking more than a year until we get back to AZ.

So I'm humming to myself and skipping along to the mailbox AND WHAT DO YOU THINK I FIND WAITING FOR ME?!?!?
Burst my bubble and I stopped doing the happy-happy dance. Anyone want to guess? (It might make me feel better if you humor me.) Mic

Maybe a summons or notice of audit from the IRS. Maybe even test results from health clinic.

Jury duty, good one. Jury duty would be bad but grand jury duty would be worse.

First, CONGRATS on your retirement!!! Hooray! As to what you got in the mail... I don't know, social security payment info?? Property tax bill on the stick house? You didn't win the Publisher's Clearing House drawing?? It had better not be anything having to do with your retirement funds...

Hope all is well!!

Brenda, of...

OK, the MH is packed. I've served grand jury before (4 months worth) and thank goodness it's not that again. BUT it is a regular jury duty summons for the end of February when we will be at a rally and then heading north through CA and all around the states.

So how do full-time travelers who are not in the state, who have paid reservations, get a postponement for 13 months? Anyone ever get allowed an extensive postponement?

And thanks for humoring me. I feel a little better, but that's because the MH is headed for Palm Springs tomorrow.

And here I was thinking it was a letter from the the doc that said "The Rabbit Died".
(Do they still do it that way??)

Congrats on the retirement. Bummer on jury duty!

I know what I'd do. I'd make sure that notice got "lost in the mail" and caught up to me again about three weeks down the road. Then I'd write to the court and tell them where I was, where I was heading, ask for the 13 month postponement. I'd also ask them to send the reply 500 miles up the road because you are only receiving mail about once every 3-4 weeks (or something very similar that sounds resonable). My guess is they'll just take you permanently off the list.

Same thing happened to me on our first long trip after retirement. I just fired off a letter to the Jury Comissioner and the Judge granted me the extenison I asked for after reviewing our situation. Good luck and congratulations on your new found freedom!

That would be a real bummer at 50!

Robin, My first thought was call the courts Monday, but then I started thinking like you. And FMCA is handling the mail forwarding so it will take weeks to get mail from OH. My schedule is sooooo busy for the next few weeks, it will take me a while to respond.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Hope we meet somewhere, sometime.

Statistics show that the USPS loses over a million pieces of mail a year. I am surprised that the one piece actually made it to you, or did it , and the courts have know way of knowing if it did or not. Jury duty can be fun unless your planning on retiring and doing alot of traveling.

Enjoy your retirement, can't wait till I can start.
Chris
