I have an 07 Camelot with the factory magnadyne system. I am in the middle of installing a 37 inch tv and want to put a real surround sound system in. Is there some reason I cant use the existing speaker wire and speakers? I will add a real sub woofer and a center channel as well.
How do I switch from the magnadyne which I listen to while traveling to the surround sound while watching a movie? I think there is a home theater switch in place that switches between the two? Any advice would be appreciated......Thanks

My 08 Endeavor had a factory surrond system installed (RCA) and they have a switch box that you can select between the dash unit (Magnadyne) or the home theater system.
I have the drawing for that system attachedx.

I've been considering adding a true surround sound receiver with DVD, and using the dash radio only for driving. But one of my main objections with the dash radio while driving is having the speakers behind me. Rather than try to use the same speakers for two things, I was thinking about adding a new set of dash speakers just to use while driving, and using the existing surround sound speakers just for the surround system.
On my coach, at least, there seems to be just enough space to set new speakers into the ceiling area between the overhead storage compartments and the driver/passenger side windows. They would be pretty much near the windshield A pillar and firing straight down.
My though is that the direct firing speakers would make better sound while driving, and eliminate the need for a switch box or special wiring to get one set of speakers to do two things.
Another alternative might be to run the RCA audio outputs from the dash radio into a set of auxiliary inputs on the surround sound receiver, and play the dash radio through the surround sound receiver.

Thanks! That is exactly what I was thinking of doing. Off to get a switch tomorrow....

zman62......My coach came with a Home Theater system with (6) speakers and separate radio system with (6) speakers, 2 up front, 2 mid coach and 2 in the bedroom. If you can get a switch to work, great, but I would dump the Magndyne system, hook up your Theater system to the original speakers and and add separate speakers to the radio. We did this in my brother-in-law's motorhome and it worked great. He also dumped the Magnadyne for a better radio.
My coach came with the RCA Home theater syster and was initially okay. Later when I changed out the front TV to a 32" Sony HD unit, I changed the Home Theater system to a Sony system. I got a good deal at Best Buy when I bought an open box Home Theater where the speakers were a little beat up. I didn't need the speakers, so it was a good deal. Take a look at what they might have in an open box deal.

If you plan to change systems, when working with power supply's and speakers, you have to make sure that the impedance of the speakers match the power supply. I have changed my Home Theater system three times now. The original was a Panasonic, the next was a Sony and I now have a Samsung Blu-Ray to match my Samsung HDTV.
The Sony system was able to use the Panasonic Speakers as the impedance for the speakers were the same, however, the Samsung used a different impedance, 3 ohms versus 6 ohms, so I had to change out every speaker, all six of them.

Ok finding this ab switch is a little more challenging than I thought. I need one like the one shown in the above posted diagram. 2 surround sound unputs and one out going to the speakers. Anyone know where I can find one?

I am trying to get this wrapped up tomorrow. I wonder if I can find something that will work at a local electronics store?

If the TV you are installing is true HD (1080p) you will likely need to install HD cables. I could be wrong but if your current TV is an LCD Sharp it is likely only 720p and the OEM cabling will be inadequate.
